  • Anyone else noticed the massive increase in police on the streets since yesterday? I have seen about 10 cars pulled over by the police, one or two motorbike cops hidden behind buildings to catch speeders, another police checkpoint, I think they were pulling over motorbikes..?

  • i was up in london at the weekend, on the sunday night after midnight me an a mate bombing it down city road, jumped a red. Prob got 10 yards on when i heard a siren. pulled up an despite being fairly far form stone cold just got a talking to about how i was putting myself at risk and i should at least slow down if im going to jump lights. cant really falt the 5-0 on that one.

  • I was in central london several months ago on the way to one of the onedotzero nights at southbank and whilst stuck in a traffic jam (you know- when you're completely locked in and can't wriggle out) I ended up with a police car on one side and the pavement on the other.."Balls" I think "no jumping on the pavement for me" after we've been sitting there for 5 minutes (literally) not being able to move the policeman rolls down the window and hits me with "What are you doing? Why don't you just get on the pavement and cut accross?"
In shock, I reply "Um.. well... it's ILLLEGAL isn't it?", the policeman laughs and says (I kid you not) "YEAH, like that matters"

Fucking hell - what's the bet if you'd have gone up on the curb he would have (or his friend) got out and gave you some trouble.

  • Failing to stop is now an arrestable offence; so you'd be in the nick for half a day and get a few hundred quid fine. If they catch you.

I managed to evade the police cruising down Albert road in Portsmouth at about 3am on a longboard. I kept going the wrong way up one way streets, and they kept re-appearing at the other end. I lost them eventually by hiding in the castle. One of the most fun nights I had ay uni ever (I was extremely high).

  • I used to live on Vic Road South, and ran the pub that is now the Goose and Granite on the corner of Albert Road.

  • i tried to tell a skidder whipping past me infront of the rozzers at theobalds rd just before the holborn curve not to jump because of cops, and he told me, "fuck cops" - and got pinched 20m further through the intersection. geniuses everywhere.

  • do people really say 'cops' I thought they only said that in Chips and The Sun?

That happen sporadically really, sometime there's a lots, sometime there isn't, yesterday on Theobald Road I saw a police officier (in a car mind) pulling over a rampage scooter who been driving recklessly through the bus lane.

  • Just curious as to what would happen should you decide to not stop if a copper wants to pull you for you jumping a red...

When i got pulled the police car was off the side of the road with both officers out and i was shifting pretty quick, reckon i could have put a couple of hundred yards between me and him before the blue lights went on.

Would they bother chasing you down?

    Hefty fine?? Arrested??

    Who's tried it?

    Ta

    Bobs

if there is one thing i have learnt from reality tv is that police love a chase, and even better, wrestling someone to the ground.

  • There were a couple of bike bobbies waiting at the pedestrian crossing near Queensway this morning. Saw one guy get chased as he went through the red.

  • Are long boards classed as a bit shit, really vehicles under the RTA? I'm not sure that you were evading the police, inasmuch as they have no general power to stop you.

If the police want to stop you they will, although you may not be in breach of any act or statute in reality you have zero protection from harassment / detainment or even arrest if some police officer wants to fuck around with you.

  • i was in london on my bike like and was bombing through town tearing shit up and hit this light which was well red, cars and shit everywhere and this Po Po pulls me over and goes like thats against the law and i'm like fuck you i pay road tax i know my rights and he is like i could give you a £120 fine and bang you up and i'm like yeah whatever i know my rights

    that is all...

Police, you can always make the truncheon joke, but with bankers you do get to go to nicer restaurants. I'm not so sure now.

  • pigs eat pigs!

  • There were a bunch of motorbikey police guys blowing whistles at nothing in particular and causing mayhem amongst the cabbies this morning - not sure what that was all about!

  • I totally agree - But there is the protection afforded by the police having to pretend to have a reason.

    There is no protection.

Members of the public are being unlawfully and arbitrarily detained without reason by the police a report by the Government's own watchdog has found. QC Lord Carlile condemned the stop and searching of members of the public by officers even though there was no evidence or suspicion against them.

  • you rock, tynan. i wish there were more like you.

  • you rock, tynan. i wish there were more like you.

Cheers, but I only quoted the governments own watchdog on these matters.

In a separate investigation published this week - this one by the government's own Human Genetics Commission - it is reported that the police are now routinely arresting people in order to collect DNA samples for the national DNA database even though there is no evidence or suspicion of a crime committed.

They police really need no reason now, as a former police superintendent, giving evidence to the inquiry, says it was now the norm to arrest people for everything and anything possible. "It is apparently understood by serving police officers that one of the reasons, if not the reason, for the change in practice is so that the DNA of the "offender" can be obtained."

  • What I want to know is, if the Police are taking all this DNA, stopping and searching all these people, and there's all this CCTV everywhere, how come shit load of crime goes on and the perpetrators are rarely caught?
