  • Where can you park a bike near the Phil?!

Coincidentally, before seeing this thread I registered a new blog yesterday just to see if there's anyone out there who might find it...

Good point. Need to sort that one out asap. I tied to the parking sign outside. The Childwall Abbey pub has a rack of bike stands in the pub garden...and Marsden's pedigree

  • Or the Brewery Tap is pretty central, lock bikes to railings and even the security guard on the gate of Cains brewery can keep an eye on them, and only a couple of miles from Sefton Park.

  • We do rides on a wednesday evening leaving from the pier head when the weather gets better, look on http://mcg666.wordpress.com for more info though we do not really update that site enough. I would have been riding in a similar direction on thursday night I live not far from Calderstones park it depends which way you went I think most commuters seem to go round sefton park at that time. The Childwall Abbey pub is somewhere we often go as well after a long ride for a well earned beer as its on the way back from most the rides we do the beer is good and there are benches outside for the summer.

  • Sounds good, I look forward to the longer evenings.

  • New 400m outdoor velodrome in Huyton.

I only learned about this today, though it's been held up due to lack of funds.

  • Come to Sefton Park 29th April. You will meet loads of fixie riders. All my friends ride bikes. Plus I know many many more in Liverpool.

  • yeah i think cycling in a everyday sense is growing around liverpool, there seems to be little clubs and that blog which keep popping up which is good.

  • What about commuting in the pool? Seemed quiet when I was last there. Will be back for the Sefton park racing. Hope to see more than 2 mtbs on pavements coming south along smith down/allerton road. Liverpool is an easy riding place with students and one hill up from town. No excuses scoucers!

Surely anybody who's reading this forum is already cycling?
I commute in Liverpool by the way, cycling is my only form of transort and my primary leisure activity.

  • Of course...
Suppose the local authority needs to be doing more, or the local cycling campaign. Is there a Liverpool Cycling Campaign?

I'm not sure, there must be some body involved in advocating cycling as I received some route maps and stuff through the post.

  • i doubt it, in the times manifesto they have pointed out that "every city even those without an elected mayor, should appoint a cycling commissioner to push home reforms"

  • Im gonna start the Wednesday night rides up again soon if anyone is up for it there is more info on here http://mcg666.wordpress.com/2012/03/15/wednesday-rides/

    There's a Merseyside Cycling Campaign
    http://www.merseycycle.org.uk/
I encountered them for the first time at the Liverpool Cycle Forum this last week, they were less than enthusiastic about the Times' campaign, sandal wearers who probably got a little sick at the idea of supporting a Murdoch backed campaign.

    Read about it here
    http://icycleliverpool.blogspot.co.uk/

  • Was their issue with the Times campaign messages rather than murdoch? (I didn't like the campaign initially) as their highlighting danger didn't help much to encourage cycling. They have modified this message this significantly

  • Their issue seemed to be that they think the Times will forget about the issue soon so it's not worth bothering engaging with it.

  • Anyone living near Smithdown? I've seen a few guys around, but not many!

  • yeah i live on Lawrence rd, just off Smithdown (term time) if you want to go for a spin

  • Following the success of the Sefton Park race perhaps Liverpool need its own lfgss forum (Manchester has)
    http://www.lfgss.com/thread43931.html

    This thread qualifies liverpool

So... how do you show demand is there for a forum? Simples... just start a thread in the General forum for your city (i.e. "Fixed gear in Edinburgh") and once you have 50 posts in the thread and at least 10 people have participated in the thread... let me know and I'll create you a forum.

So who is going to PM velocio?

  • that's great news!

  • the new velodrome is sweet man we climbed the fence for a cheeky ride last week i dunno how legitimate thier gona run the place though
