I just found out my lift has fallen through, which is sort of a blessing - wouldn't get any rest on a Friday night trip over, then half five pickup to the start.
Am planning on riding 260k just for the sake of it. If anyone is bored (and wants to get even more bored), feel free to join me for 2 laps of the Hell of The Ashdown course and back to London.

You're doing 260k this Sunday?
-
• #829
No no, on the day of the sportif, 4th April just to prove to myself I could do it. Will probably be out on Wednesday morning, and next weekend if you wanted to get some miles in.
Not panicking are you?
-
• #830
Nope, I'm only doing the 140k option since I want to be awake for the race the following day.
My biggest headache for this is sorting out a bike bag. -

Going out into the Park tomorrow. 10 am at the cafe.

I was getting all primed to ride a single-geared velocipede around Richmond's famous park tomorrow as well, but suddenly I've come up with another cunning plan.
I will be spotted tomorrow. Oh yes, I will be spotted...

Are you coming down with the measles?
-
• #838
No, I'm going to be a dick.

• #839
"going to be"?
-
• #840
As ever.
Anyway, haven't you got a dinner date or something?
-
• #841
No, I forgot all about it. Which is why I'm grumpier than usual and biting at all these cunts.

First fixed ride around RP for a while. Surprised myself by managing to spin up the hills. I must be improving, which is nice.

At the cafe, I got talking to a cyclist who was training for the L2P. He had been out on an L2P training ride in Surrey four weeks ago and had had his rear wheel clipped just as he hit a pot hole. Went over the handlebars and suffered massive internal injuries as his handle bar rammed him in the kidneys.
Police there in 3 minutes. Ambulance in 10. In Hospital 25 minutes after the accident. Speed saved his life.
4 days in intensive care. 2 weeks in hospital and this was his first ride four weeks after the accident albeit on a flat pedaled mountain bike.
He said that he was lucky not to have lost a kidney and that his internal bleeding had been such that he saw his stomach swelling up. He said that surviving the accident and being on the way to full recovery was like winning the lottery. He was still planning to do the L2P.
I should also point out that he was comfortably in his 50s.
That's what I call HTFUing.

Though I have a slightly twingeing knee, I am going to do some easy laps of RP this eve. Roehampton Gate around 7pm. Let me know if I should wait round for anyone.

I will join you next week if you're doing it as I have a flashy new light.
