  • fook, that was a bit chilly this morning!

  • my feet are still frozen!

I think I underestimated the amount of layers needed, either that or spending xmas with oldies who have the heating full-bore has made me all soft.

  • Caught up with Megan and had a pleasant gentle ride home.

Thanks for the spin. Thermal tights ftw...

  • had my longs (bib), thermal base, winter jersey and windproof jacket. alright for riding, but not for sitting outside! got hot during my last full lap of RP. good ride guys. needed that.

my first fixed there. did the last lap anti-clockwise. my 47x18 gearing is just right, not too slow and not too heavy. the climbs were easy enough. ill try the big hill (clockwise) next.

  • that's 70.5 GI, perfect for winter spinning!

the hills are do-able in much higher gearings, but your knees may not agree, especially if it's windy.
I can go round in 69GI on my heavy bike without getting out the saddle. All high gears do is reduce your lap times, not important for training.

  • As I was up in London for XMAS I managed to get over to RP on Sunday for a few laps. I've forgotten how nice it is to cycle there. No car hassle at all. Rode anti-clockwise as I couldn't remember how steep the hill was. About 71 GI seemed perfect to get some decent twiddling in. Fucking cold, need better glove/sock solutions in this weather.

One thing, why are all the roadies so unfriendly. Not a single nod all day! I guess I'm too used to the Sussex country lanes.

Hope to get up on a Saturday some point with you lot.

  • If you ride round in Rollapaluza CC kit they all say "hello", dismount and salute. It's only proper.

  • "One thing, why are all the roadies so unfriendly. Not a single nod all day! I guess I'm too used to the Sussex country lanes."

Because they'd have to see a chiro every week since there's so many of them the nodding would get out of control.

Since I'm not there often and tend not to see many roadies on my commute I'm a bit of a nodder in RP. Not too much though.. don't want to give a false sense of giving a shit to other riders you know.. I'm only there to train train train.. no social aspect.. focus daniel-san.. ;)

Unless they are the 'chosen ones' who will instead be showering your feet with rose petals and commending you on your calf musculature.

Ha, ha, I guess you're right.

And yes, focus is everything. I need to work on my game face :<

  • yeah, it's a bit like london commuters, they don't nod cos there's so many of them.

and some of them are just too pro!

but I nod or say hello, usually If I'm overtaking them

  • I had one of those awkward overtaking moments as it happen. Roadie passes me but then proceeds to slow down. As the road rises up to Richmond gate I have to over take him as I go only go one speed! He then thunders past me later all offended. Oh the politics!

  • The etiquette is that when you pass him, you should be sitting up with your hands on your hips.

  • ^ we could do some drills like that this coming saturday and guess what they are called?

I'm a fan on the "Tally ho" pass...

  • If you can't pass and stay 'passed'.. don't pass. :)

  • yep, nothing worse than some idiot flying past you, only to run out of steam 5 seconds later, cos he has used everything just to get past. Thats normally when I go past them very nonchalantly, as if I am barely trying

Don't let Teddy see that kit. ;p

    hipster

As daft as that may sound, this is actually something I find really helpful to be reminded of. It's one of those things that I've known, and forgotten again, and known again, and forgotten again ... Simple point well put. Remind me again in, uh, about an hour ... ;)

    Hipsters?

  • RPM, will you be there on Saturday or are you still recovering? I will be there.

Next week I have a sodding fencing competition on the Saturday, its just not fair.
