  • Want to rebuild my fron wheel radial (coz it looks hot) anyone able to do it.

Done a bit of searching but didnt find much. ASM, Dogs? Are you still building wheels.

How much Engrish Dollar for wheel build?

    D!

  • £10 and 40mins :)

  • If your doin it radial do it yerself. Its piss easy. Cross lacing does tend to stress flanges in a way such that if then relaced radial your hub can pretty much turn into a mini hadron collider.

    wank!

    £8 and 30mins

  • I don't want to start a possible black hole and thus turning all life as we know it back to a single atom before you can say 'my hub's exploded' . . . But for £8 I'll give it a go! ;)

Gabes/Dogs, I'm guessing I'll need shorter spokes for a radial build. Do I source these myself or can you get me some nice black ones?

    you'll need around 260mm for high-flange to deep-v

  • £5 and 20min. Done.

Note: after this you might need a new wheel. Oh, and I charge for rim tape!

  • You fellas are cheap!

I guess your not including spokes with that?

I radialled an mavic ma2 that was 2 cross laced onto a miche low flange hub.

Been riding it hard for a couple months, had no problems so far. It was very easy to do aswell.

  • Fair enough, i was just relaying what i read on sheldon

"The other potential problem with radial wheels is that since the spokes are trailing straight outward on the hub flange, they can possibly rip the outer edge of the flange right off along the line of the spoke holes. This is most likely to happen with small flange 36 hole hubs, because there is less metal between the spoke holes. If a used hub is re-laced radially, the notches left by the old spokes can act as stress risers, further weakening the flange.

Many hub manufacturers specifically recommend against radial spoking for this reason, and will not honor warrantys on hubs that have been spoked radially.

Some folks will say that no bicycle wheels should be radially spoked for this reason, so do this at your own risk."

  • Donut do it yourself...well easy.

  • Thanks M_V but the hubs are brand new, only 2 weeks use, so think it should be fine.

Dogs, I just measured the distance between the spoke end in the flange and the rim and it's about 255 ish. Should I therefore get 255 spokes exactly? Bearing in mind the nipple is about 12mm long?

  • Shins I wish I could, would like to learn, but I'm crap at truing my own wheels, let alone re-building!

  • donut... watch out dogs will try to bum you... doggy style

  • Building a wheel is easy. Its the getting it true I struggle with. You could try and build them then take them to dogs or gabes to get them to help/ show you how to true them. Fun with lerning.

  • i rebuilt a wheel i had, just to learn.
    looks good and solid now.
don't have enough time usually though :(
also that book wheelpro thingy is ace.

  • Donut sheldon... FTW

  • Don't you need a whell true jig or whatever it's called?

  • 1x for the win, raydial is a bit spring/summer.

And you have one... Your front forks, with 3 bits of paper and some bluetac.

  • Hmmm, still liking the idea of watching someone else do it.
