  • Hello all,

Back from the East and up for a drink tonight. So, if this is a goer then count me in.

    T_T

    PS Japan was awesome.

PPS Prices on bike gear weren't exactly a bargain so afraid I got nothing except some brake blocks for myself. And didn't see any 'weird' bike shit either.

  • Where are you guys drinking now on a tuesday? Thread title and o.p still say Kings arms I can't be arsed to read though all of the pages to see the evolution.

  • PS Japan was awesome.

Isn't it any more? What have you done to it???

  • The taint

Recently The Old Thameside Inn, London bridge. Modest turn up may suggest, that there's a splinter group functioning within the SE drinks.

  • The Real SE Drinks?

  • OK I popped out last night and found three possibilitites:
    **
The Lorn Nelson 243 Union Street**:
Really nice cosy little place, warm, and the bosses have a good sense of humor. There's outside space so you can stay in or out and the bike are always in view. They fella I spoke to seemed very open to the idea of doing deals if he knew we be there + plus they give free shots. My fav.
    **
    The Miller,96 Snowsfields Road, SE1:**
I'm sure some of you have been here before. It's pretty big and again has an outdoor space for bike lock up.
    **
The Leather Exchange: 15 Leather Market Street, SE1 3HN:**
This doesn't have an out door space as such but I remember there being a fence across the street where bikes could be lock and remain in sight. There's an upstairs space with and open fire and they do food.

If folk could add their past experience of the mentioned spots that would be a big help to this the Odyssey that is SE Beers.
If you haven't been to any of them it would be great if you try and pop in on your travels and give some feedback.

  • Due to the forum going back in time, the poll to vote a new pub has never happened, fresh start guys...

  • yeah, can we please go back to the future.. i'm all confused n'shit

    This gets extremely busy.

I know this pub extremely well. It's a lovely place that's often quite empty, and the upstairs is great. I haven't suggested it before, though, because there isn't enough space for bike parking. The only solution I could see would be if some kind of deal could be done to stick the bikes into that cafe yard next door.

  • OT - what about frrrrrrrrrrrriday? as in today.. as in, who wants to meet up somewhere centralish?

  • We had a very good drinks at the Windmill, Waterloo Cut a while ago.

    Technically both SE1 *and *Central.

  • I used to drink at the Leather Exchange, when it was called the Jugglers Arms for a while (More Balls than Most, a UK juggling company were in the warehouse next door). It's a shame the courtyard is closed off now, as it used to be open access - but maybe we can sort something out. As Oliver says, the opportunities for Bike locking aren't great.
I love this pub and spent many of my formative years in it, drinking beer and playing Addams Family Pinball, in fact I had my 18th Birthday Party there..Bright times.

For the avoidance of doubt- I was talking about having Friday night drinks here,
or maybe at the place that Clefty mentioned.

  • I've always really rated the building and we've had a lot of LCC events there. The guys who work there are great, too. Perhaps part of the reason why it now attracts so little custom is because that yard next to it isn't available any more?

With bike parking sorted out, I reckon this could be a winner, but I'd have to ask the guys at the pub.

Failing that, I still recommend trying out The Horseshoe Inn in Melior Street.

  • i am so impatient... yes! windmill, i am keen - i did start a who wants to hang out in sw2 thread.. but fugdatshit

  • Windmill has the advantage of being extremely easy to find, with outdoor tables.

  • So are we settled on The Roebuck for Tuesdays or is this all kicking off again.....i'm quite happy with The Roebuck and the lovely Greenwich wheat beer.

  • fresh start eh?

well i'd love to come tonight to scout a place, but I have a catchup dinner with some old friends.

For the love of all that is holy lets just go to the same pub for a bit.

We can then use this basis of stability and good beer to argue about where we should be.

Roebuck is the current SE drinks pub.

But- and it's a big but- we are now talking about Friday night, which is either Brocolli drinks or the Windmill.

  • I vote Windmill. That was fun last time.

  • I'm only going to be there if you have* that* T-shirt on though Balki

  • I vote Windmill. That was fun last time.

tonight tho right? i am going to amend the sw2 thread http://www.londonfgss.com/thread32066.html
