Since we all seem to be hanging out here, which class would you take? I have two choices...
Drawing A Story
Marcus Cornish/Susan Bacon
10:00-17:00, Shoreditch Studio 1
View details | Book nowThe idea of this course is to use drawing to open the imaginative mind. We start by reading texts from different stories or myths and use the model's poses to illustrate or provoke the narrative. The poses are varied in length and the stories vary with each class.
Drawing London’s Different Faces
Johnny Dewe Mathews/Mark Cazalet
10:00-17:00, Out of House
View details | Book nowThis course gives students an opportunity to draw in a variety of unusual and interesting environments; to capture objects and events at the living moment and to create images with a sense of place. We will visit sites of activity and creativity such as rehearsal rooms, restaurants and busy public spaces. This will encourage students to feel comfortable drawing in busy London environments with a particular emphasis on how to achieve a sense of place, depth, harmony and rhythm.
The aim of this course is to encourage the students to discover their own visual language for interpreting the fourdimensional world of figures, both static and mobile, onto a two-dimensional surface. Please note that the class times may vary slightly for the occasional class on this course. This is due to the nature of the course and the importance of coordinating with rehearsal rooms so students can get the most out of the class. We ask that students remain flexible during the course so we can provide a good variety of drawing opportunities on this unique course.

It's a lot easier to draw on a fixed easel- you can then draw at 1:1 scale as you have a fixed surface in relation to the fixed model.
Easiest way to do it I found was to measure the proportions of the model using the pencil*, then sketch that out first lightly, then work on the detail.
- Hold the pencil up, put the tip on say the top of the models head, then hold the pencil where their shoulders are, then move the pencil to the paper and mark off the distance.
You can then layout the models body very precisely, which helps a lot when going for the detail.
Quick too.

I thought it was some weird fixie-painting analogy thing. Were you actually talking about art?

Used to do a lot of life drawing.
True story- was setting up easel in studio, sharpening pencil etc when a friend from the local pub walked in.
Was chatting away, assuming that she was going to set up her easel etc.
At which point, chatting away to me, she stripped naked, then walked to the middle of the room and sat down.

Yeah, I know that it would be easier to start with the drawing a story, as I would be in the same place every week.
But Drawing London Faces looks totally amazing....
Basicly, I draw comics, and although my stories are good, I need help with drawing people....particularly faces.
Need to register today...can't make up my mind...

The drawing faces one you could do on your own with a sketchbook, the studio one would mean you would get more advice I would think?
-
• #2798
Should be lots of tuition for both, they are both with instructors....
Although my gut tells me I should go for drawing a story, my inner 7 year old is stamping her feet and wanting to do the faces one.
