  • hopefully there around 8ish

  • Going for dinner after work but will come after that c. 8:30

  • Yo all,
Last night I bumped into my friend Okan (and new forum member called Nicnam) on my way from work. Not so much of an accident he'd told me he would be fitting a new crankset at CYCLE PS in Camberwell so I looked into the shop when passing by.

I was talking to the mechanic (one of the mechanics) there and about the fact SE beers seem to be pub less at the moment. He is a very nice guy, and a cycling/bike enthousiast of course.
I had met Harvey (manager/owner not sure) when they opened their other shop not far from E&C. At the time he came over here suggesting we could try his place for our weekly meetings, and one Tuesday I went there to see, reported here and said we could give it a go, nothing came out of it.

So anyway I told the mechanic (Sheriff is his name, not sure of the spelling sorry) I'd suggest their place for Beers on the thread. It's relax, opens late enough, at least for winter beers, there are sofas at the back from what I could see, space to bring bikes inside (within reason, but with current attendance it should be OK). And most importantly, although it's not a pub, they sell beer, at the tap and bottles too. I'm not sure they do food but if they don't I suppose Camberwell famous falafels and other specialties could do...

Just my 2p... I have not been to SE drinks for months so I have no street cred to insist on us going there, but I thought I's mention it. From yesterday's conversation Rene and Danny have been around the place too, that's street cred for you...

    Happy new year everybody!

  • Oh, and I'm in for drinks tonight, if they happen, wherever they happen...

  • ^^ Now THAT is a great idea.

Especially like the bit about sofas.

  • Loic I remember this being suggested before but I thought it didn't happen because it closed too early, like 8 or something. That's just from memory, I haven't UTFS. If they're open late I am up for trying it

  • I've been in the Newington Cycle PS a couple of times - was nice enough. How long has Camberwell been open?

  • me and tibbs went to the one near e&c before xmas and while it's not bad in there, it's def not a compass drinks venue imo. haven't been to the one loic is suggesting though so it might be different.

tube strike is off now apparently so I can do my intervals run outside the roebuck now (get there early if you want a seat to spectate) and hang around for a bit longer than I was expecting to if i had to get home before the walk-out.

The dude said they generally open till 9h30, but would be happy to stay open later if people were around...

I asked him the same question. They opened 7 weeks ago.

Compass venue... Not sure about this... I'm personnally happy generally anywhere providing people turn-up but I can appreciate people like a real pub.

    All I know:
    -Camberwell is in SE London
-Sheriff seems to be a very nice guy, and I'm sure it's also the case for his colleagues. I think that's an important point... My last time in SE beers I had to argue with a passive agressive waitress at the Kings Arms about their new managment rules and they table occupancy system... Of course it was not her fault, she didn't decide the rules in question, and it was all fine in the end, and I would definitely go again to the KA for their great ribs... But I'm naive enough to believe that I will always feel welcome if the place is run by cyclists...
    -They have sofas
-Inside space for bikes (unless there is 20 of us which never happens because SE is dead
    -Beer.
-They sell Cinelli hat so Reen will be happy.
-They sell brake pads for you f*****g fixie skidders

  • I wasn't going to come by now that Chiq is providing entertainment I might even skip yoga to get down early for a trackside view!

  • /\ /\ /\ /

But anyway, in cycle PS or anywhere else, I'm up for a beer tonight...

  • get thee down the roebuck then loic

not yet of course, later on like.

  • Can't make tonight but like Loics idea of having drinks in this brothel in Camberwell with sofas.

Alas in 2 weeks I move to real deep SE so the Station will probably end up my venue of choice unless I'm swinging past the central suspects.

  • not yet of course, later on like.

What time will the games begin? :D

  • am getting into my p.e. kit at work about 5.15 I expect. mile and a half warm-up running to the pub then 4x1200m laps with 400m recovery jogs and a mile to cool down. probably be running from 5.30pm -> 6.30pm

Ok ok, no need to shout at me in old fashion English because I'm foreign!

I didn't know there was a consensus on the Roebuck, hence me suggesting an alternative... this thread is mess!

I'll see you all at the Roebuck, where I'll be shouting at people in French, as a revenge.

  • Roebuck tomorrow, would be nice to see many I haven't seen in ages.

    Will be there from 18:00ish

    tibbs called it.
