I've been in Los Angeles for the past couple of weeks and I rode by the KA last night on the way home. Now I see why it was so dead!
See y'all next week!
-
• #2329
hope u had a blazing time there. tell me all about it next week, though appearance is uncertain for me. well let's see how it works out.
-
• #2330
i'll be up for some further beer haunt hunting don't know about your "back alley cruising" tho reen!
need to find somewhere with good cheap eats, the KA will be hard to beat. those ribs are gooood!

hey, seems i'll be a bit unavailable for activities from now on for a few days. hope i'll make the bright times that is, we'll see.

The KA:
There's a vibe that we're more of a hindrance than than a pleasure to have around.
Apparently the Guinness and ales aren't always up to scratch.
Outside gets a little breezy and very noisy.
The food is pretty good tho but the prices aren't the most competitive.
Indoors gets a little too loud with the DJ and finding suitable seating arrangments is an issue.Am I right in guessing these are the problems?
Are we in agreement that we're gonna stay in SE1?
If so,
the first two that come to mind are Rouse on Borough High Street (E&C end). Not great food but ok, its big, friendly.
Also that bar in Borough market that has some quality sights. -
• #2336
Ruse as in the bar that is painted blue on the outside, halfway-ish between Borough tube and E&C?
If that's the one you mean there is no outside seating, and as we spend all our time outdoors unless it is -4 outside that might be an issue.
Passers by get tres annoyed with smokers blocking the pavement outside also.
Market Porter in Borough market is very nice- but the only place to lock your bike up is too the telegraph pole outside the Oyster place, and then you need a long chain lock.
Sights and sounds are good I agree, and they keep you ale and Guiness.
I'm still voting for the Roebuck though!
-
• #2337
Roebuck.
Usually some talent in there too...
-
• #2338
The pubs in Borough Market are great, but as Neil says locking is limited and they do get very busy even on weekdays in summer. I've never tried the food at the Roebuck but the ale and ambience are pretty good, so it gets my vote as a worthy successor to the KA.
-
• #2339
Yup i'm in for the Roebuck, we'd be much better appreciated there than our mob being in the way in the busy, but lovely, Borough Market bars...plus the beers are some of the very best!

just been to the temporary bar on the roof of the multistorey car park in peckham. such a lovely view of london and nice sights if talent spotting or twitching is your thing. definitely worth a visit before its dismantled. just lettin y'all know its there if you didnt know aleady.
sorry if i missed something.

I’m definitely gonna check out the peckham car park bar, cheers.
I keep meaning to come along to SE Beers cos I live just around the corner, I have a class on Tuesday nights but I could probably get down for around 8.45/9, are people still usually around then?
There are several other good pubs near Tooley Street which have nice outdoor seating areas:
I’d recommend The Woolpack on Bermondsey Street as long as u stay outside, the beer garden is nice and has shelter if it rains.
http://www.woolpackbar.com/The Miller on Snowsfields, the outdoor seating is on the edge of a road but it’s usually a super quiet one, seems to do quite a bit of food and is also 20 yards from a very good (and cheap) bring your own booze Indian with outdoor seating.
Browns on the riverfront just east of Tower Bridge is great for the views and table service if a little too ‘poncy’/fancy, it is a bit expensive but they do a lot of food
The Roebuck is good but the outside seating area is pretty much on a main road and personally I think the places above have much nicer outdoor areas.
(The Woolpack, Browns and a bit of the The Miller do have outside heatlamps which are either very handy or an eco disaster depending on your point of view.)

I'm gagging to go to Peckham roof top, maybe we could do a special one off.... to discuss other long term venues...amongst other things????
-
• #2343
Yeah sounds good. Not terribly central but not too far away considering it's a one off.
-
• #2344
The Woolpack is my local. Food is great, nice beers, but the outdoor area is accessible only by going through the pub, so taking bikes out there would probably have to be ok'd by the landlord. Most people won't want to be locking their bikes out front if they are drinking in the back.
-
• #2345
Roebuck, Woolpack, WTF. Where we going tonight?
-
• #2346
I vote Roebuck, got the road bike* with me today so it needs to stay where I can see it.
*Ongoing tendon problem
-
• #2347
Roebuck cool with me. Open to trying somewhere else next week and so on. But Roebuck cool this week.

+1
i have been on two occasions and its fantastic, only problem is the alcohol.
they only have peroni bottled beer , organic cider and the assorted shorts and chasers. ............... no guinness. that said i still had a great time. the view was lovely and the 'sights' as multigrooves puts it are tremendous :-) -
• #2349
I'm really strapped for cash until payday and that place sounds expensive, so if you chaps fancy going there I'll see you next month.
-
• #2350
^ i'm up for that, we should set a definite date though as it comes down literally next month apparently. at the moment its pleasant as there isnt really a chill in the air but as the nights draw nearer its gonna be a bit blustery at that altitude.
i know jack shit about the area tbh, but multi is up for some recce style back alley cruising, let's talk to him. not much in terms of place to check out rather then drifting and try and look for a perl somewhere behind the main roads.
