if we're suggesting a change, what about the Old Haberdasher on Lewisham Way?
I still like to give this one a go -

Shall we come up with a shortlist and put it to vote?
The Albert will be sad to lose us. They are really quite fond of us for some reason.

One question though...are we sure it is the pub that is the reason that SEs is quieter than usual?
If so, then maybe we just cut our losses and go back to the Roebuck. Location is king isn't it? Or the Kings Arms...

The Catford Tavern is miles away though. Would be a good way to put off anyone who doesn't live SE, especially in winter.
This.

Well Norths is north and I live south so I don't go there
surely having SE in SE makes sense? or just call it Chainbreakers don't really cycle that much central drinks

What we need is to establish a theory as to why the event is sparsely attended which will inform future decisions as to pub
Choice of pub is more important for me, so Albert wins over Roebuck, but I hardly ever go and company is most important of all, so Roebuck wins over Albert?

Yes, we could all just go to our local drinks, all the time.
That would be... boring.
Somewhere not too far out in the given corner of the map is the usual rule.
I'm not sure how norths would feel about having their drinks in Frien Barnet, for example.

I like the royal albert though

I think the centralish Roebuck worked for SE beers because it was en route home for most people who lived SE, but not too far away for people who lived elsewhere.

I like the Albert too :/
One question though...are we sure it is the pub that is the reason that SEs is quieter than usual?
Nope, as far as I can see. A lot of the people who used to go more are still SE and the pub is nearer to them, if anything.
Personally I like the Albert but I've not been down much because I've been too busy. Planning to come next week though.
Can we think of anyone who doesn't live SE, who used to come to the Roebuck but hasn't made it to the Albert?

From my personal perspective I don't go to SEs as often because I have a new job with long hours and the little time I do have (normally one night a week) I end up doing other stuff with. Its nothing to do with the pub. Its just that I have a job now.
Two weeks ago we had three new people turn up to SEs but everybody else was having tramp beers so they soon left.
I don't feel that SEs is dead.

But it would appear that you no longer do?

There is no 'usual rule', the pub is chosen based on where the people are and where they want to go. If Norths wanted their pub to be in Friern Barnet because they all lived locally, they'd probably all be quite happy about the move. It would be more of an issue to those who cycle up there from SE or elsewhere, who would just have to HTFU.
Once your audax bike is built up it shouldn't be a problem getting to the pub, even if it is as far out as shudder Catford.

I have nothing to contribute re: change of venue. Pubs is pubs is pubs, it's people that do it for me. But if you can't all sit together and hear each other talk, then that pub isn't doing it for me. Can't really afford the SEs excess of old at the moment, so I'm currently out for reasons besides geography.

I would goto SE as it's not actually that far from home, just can't be bothered.
Oh and Easts is in Norths and still doing well :)

^^^ I did a ride on Sunday, I'll have you know. Grumpy :P
I'd probably go to Catford anyway, if I was going to go. As I said my not going doesn't have anything to do with geography.
In fact, we can't seem to find anyone who doesn't go for geographic reasons.
If we like the Albert and it's a better option in winter why not stay there? Tramp beers will naturally not happen now it's summer any more (based on this morning's commute having a slight nip in the air).
catford tavern :-)
