  • Nice job, how did you get the decals off?

It's been a while since I've been on here, but saw this thread and thought I'd post mine up, here's mine:

  • Is there really nobody out there that would be so kind to measure the maximum chainring diameter? It would help so much...

  • 2008 white or 2009 green bobthefish? I think there's slight differences between the two.

  • I could not find a shop that still ships the 2008 in 60cm size. Would love to get the white 2008 version. If somebody can confirm that the 2008 version takes a big chainwheel I could intensify the search for a shop that still got a 08 in 60cm. Any information, regarding either the 2008 or the 2009 would be very appreciated.

  • I would measure mine if it was a 60. have you tried contacting genesis?

  • Mine's just a little 56. I thought going up to 48:17 was being brave... LOL...

  • Already wrote Genesis but they replied that there is no need for a bigger chainwheel. They suggested a 13T-14T cog but I have not heared of such as freewheel...
@ SuperSonic: How much space is on the 56 between the 48T chainwheel and the chainstay?

  • 5mm between teeth and chainstay on the 56cm frame for 48t 2007 frame. Just measured mine. It doesn't look like there's really very much clearance for a bigger 'ring.

  • @richardvaltos: Thank you very much for your effort! That helped me allot and saved me a mispurchase. Sad that the frame is built that way and doesn't give users the opportunity to upgrade to a bigger chainwheel. Would be happy about suggestions for frames that allows that but it probably belongs in another thread. Thanks again!

  • @ bobthefish, you can get smaller screw-on freewheels, they were made for BMXs before the casette took over a few years back. the trouble is you may need a new hub, the threads are smaller on the smaller freewheels. Have a search around for some old school BMX flip flop racing hubs, prob only 36h tho- if that helps :D

  • Why not ride 54:16 to give a GI of 91.1", super close to the 91.5" that 61:18 gives.

And you already have a 16t freewheel, I think?

  • Thanks for your thoughts! 61:18 was a mistake. Actually I ride 61:16 on my capo and tend to even go higher rather than lowering the gear. But with the smallest freewheel with 16T there is no other way but going into the 60s with the chainwheel...

  • You wont get a 61 on - this one i just finished for a mate has a 49, and its rizla paper tight

  • That looks gorgeous! Very nice job you did there. Thanks for sharing the pic an the information about the little space between chain wheel and chain stay!
I am just curious about two things. First: what kind of saddle is that? Second: are you really worried about the chain hitting your chain stay (because of the protector)?

  • Charge spoon isn't it ?

    I have just acquired an 09. :)

  • First: what kind of saddle is that?

yep charge spoon. Cheap, nice looking, and apparantly comfy.

Second: are you really worried about the chain hitting your chain stay (because of the protector)?

That should'nt happen obviously, but the chain hangs on the chainstay when you remove the rear wheel. If you do this alot to flip the wheel. Its probably nice to have the protector (guessing).

Good guess! I couldn't see why my frame came with one until I had the wheel out a few times. Still plenty chipped near the BB though. I need to tape that shit up.

  • 2008 in White going for £450 from Evans, what does 'Large' equate to in cms though?

  • Hmm, 58cms?

  • Does anyone have ideas on the best way to improve a stock Flyer? After 4 months of commuting my rims are a little wobbly, the pedals need binning and I have all of the noises listed above plus a few extra. Obviously the noises can be fixed as mentioned in the posts above, but with regards to improving it what's worth doing and what's a waste of money? I have always trundled about on beaters but am doing a few miles now and would appreciate any advice.

  • Flyer= Awesome Frame.. Everything else (apart from transmission)= FAIL.
For1 the Seat for the most immediate difference & new Bar tape will add to that feel.
A pair of quality wheels is a no brainer.. Suppose you could go Upright with BMX handle bars + new Stem.. How do you want to ride?

  • I agree the frame is great and felt perfect straight away. A seat is on the agenda (anyone?) and I will do the bar tape - the original stuff is loose anyway. The wheels are the big question, I have seen these from Pro Lite but have no idea if they are any good. The miche/mavic op option will cost about the same but I would prefer black. Will they make any difference? I have about £200 all up to spend and just want it fast and reliable....

  • i personally roll with a Killer Back wheel a cheapish front.. I've seen many a Fixie +SS with missing front wheels & if your rocking that expensive front wheel say byebye to it..
Pop to BLB if your in london, they have a nice set of ambrosia rims with a selection of hubs.

  • open pro rims
    system ex/ambrosio hubs
    dt swiss db spokes

Should cost about 200ish if a shop build them.
