This is intended as a morning only ride and I think there is very little danger of not being home before nightfall. Also, my feeling is that getting to Amersham for 9am would be an unusually early start for an lfgss ride.
However, this Saturday coming is the last day summertime, so in the next few weeks, after the clocks have gone back, maybe an earlier start would be desireable.
I hope to be able to do more of these runs before Christmas - if there's any demand for them. If there is a consensus that an earlier start is needed, then that's what we'll do.
Chris, thank you for your thoughtful response. Will definitely do my best to get along for a 10am start.

@ Clubman.
I am looking very doubtful for tomorrow, so please do not wait if I am not there by 10am.

Same here I'm afraid, too many things to do do before I can ride anywhere and out tonight so no time to do it.

I won't be there either unfortunately, I have too much on now. Have fun

Chris, thanks for a lovely ride today. The route was well chosen; satisfyingly challenging uphills and spinney downhills. The weather was perfect and the cafe stop was nicely timed. Your directions for my cycle home were also great. Thanks again.

Great to see you all had a good ride.
If any of you care to join us on the ride to Oxford, or part way of the journey if you prefer, please feel free in tagging along.
Departure will be 9:30 PROMPT from Iver station, all other details on the "Gulliver's Travels" thread, also under Rides and Races.

We did have a good ride last week- perfect weather, good roads & company, but in the end there were only three of us( the third rider was Illy, who had travelled from Herne Hill to join us), plus a large number of apologies for absence.
We did a loop of just over 40 miles, which included the climbs of Northchurch Common and Ivinghoe Beacon, plus a number of other smaller climbs, so I think we all (even Illy) had a fair work out.
I was slightly concerned that Kat might have struggled with the Beacon since she was on a 72" gear and had weighed herself down with a saddlebag, but she was still smiling at the top.
I still think these rides are a worthwhile idea, even though I'm a bit disappointed by the actual level of support. I'm going to have at least one more try, so:
**Next Ride - Saturday **19th November, Meet Amersham Station 10 am.

Forgot to say that I very much enjoyed the ride last weekend. I haven't been riding in that area before but it was very pleasant, and the sorts of gradients were pretty well suited to the fixed gear. Also a good greasy spoon for a slap up lunch at the half way stop. It was a shame that most people didn't make it, but hopefully next time!

Is anyone interested in coming on this ride? It's probably your last chance for this year.

clubman,
I'm away for this ride, but enjoyed the Oxford ride out this way a few weeks back. Will you do the hard day in January this year? Keen to join if so.

Ride, meet The Radlett Cafe, Radlett High Street (A5183) 10 am.
The same formula as above but a new rendezvous. The cafe is a good place to meet up, is easy to find, and just opposite the way out from the main line station which may be useful for some. It is on the left hand side of the road as you go north towards St Albans, and has a yellow sign. This starting point will give use some different routes, and I do have a couple of new cafe stops up my sleeve.
I was thinking about doing these rides again in the Autumn, since I have had some requests. It just happens I'm going out anyway this Saturday, so I thought I might as well try out the new meeting point.
I will not be free on Saturdays regularly for a month or so.I realise this is short notice, and that it's a bank holiday weekend, but if anyone does think they are going to come, it would be good if you could post.

sounds good, but not for this time - dirty weekend away with the missus

Well, in spite of the bad weather forecast and apparent lack of support, I am committed to going out tomorrow. I intend to be at Radlett by 10 am.

Let's have another go.
Meet: The Radlett Cafe (see above for directions) 10 am.
I have a route (and another cafe) in mind, but I'll be flexible according to the strength or weakness of whoever turns up.
I'm thinking in terms of a 30 mile round trip from Radlett and back.

I'd be keen. I'm essentially free the whole day and feel in reasonable form from a week just spent touring in the Netherlands. Would be happy with what you suggest or turning it into an Extended Play version.

All being well I'll see you at 10am at the cafe

Great ride this morning. Thanks Chris for leading around some unfamiliar territory for me. I've posted the Garmin log below out of interest, apart from that small bit it was turned off for. As it turned out I could have got the train I did straight from Elephant or Blackfriars, so Radlett really the ideal starting point. I'd be free 13th October if you were keen to run another, but not 14th. Hopefully there'll be a few more people out then too.

Thinking of doing a ride out from Amersham on the 30th - what routes were used when you were doing these? the link to the garmin plots above are dead now...
