Is the book any good? I tend to avoid most things on the subject.

Reynolds Innovation 'touring' shoes

Not meaning to cause offence, but the Kids in the special unit at my old school wore these! -

It's OK but it's all in the past - should have read it when it came out. I know there was a bit of a casual/terrace revival about 6/7yrs ago(when the book came out) but it's all old hat. You were either there or you were'nt

I weren't. I was 9 in '83.
Only started going to football regularly when I was 13.

ib actually made some slip on clip less vans, too much flex, even with a strong sole insert.
shame cause i love slip ons, the only shoes i wear apart from non cycle friendly boots. i cant see that these would be any good, laces surely are a bad idea for cycle shoes.

I wasn't really *there *either but I was there. I was there but was too young to spend loadsa money on clobber. Going to Goodison Park in 82"/83" onwards was great if not a little scary but I was a a scruffy little 7yo that was more into his halftime sausage roll than a mint green Lacoste cardigan

My old man is a Chelsea fan and did get my ear pierced when I was 9. He also got me a fake Pierre Cardin cardigan and some Waffle press Farahs :)
To be honest the face of things hasn't changed at Millwall much over the years. There is still the same dedication to clothing/uniform there always was.

I gave up half way though that book. My mate just bought me the Robert Elms one and I might have a go at that.
I begged my mum for a Lacoste tacksuit when i was ten and she wouldn't get it for me. Saw the same one a few years back and bought it for my kid instead.

The book is mainly about Sweaties, Scousers and Mancs. Not so good. If you want a good book about football violence, The Football Factory is brilliant (which the film of the same name is not).
I do hope that you followed your father's lead.

Same at most grounds mate. Thing is with Millwall though they all look the same and are cliched to fuck. All in Aquascutum caps, S.I coats etc, no style. It used to be about style and who dressed the best. IMO it was always the northern clubs tha had the best 'style'. Not so much nowadays but teams like Stoke, Sheff Utd, etc had some chaps

Sadly replica shirts and club merchandise crept into football supporters wardrobes. When I was younger you would never wear colours to an away game. Now they all do.

Clive, no I'm Millwall through and through mate. I've watched the film and apart from the music I thought it was shit. Might give the book a read.
Pistanator, I'd love to argue about Millwall being better dressed than that but I'm afraid I can't :)

A good book to read on terrace culture is 'The Liverpool Boys are in Town 1978/82: where d'ya get yer trainees from?' by Dave Hewiston

I wouldn't wear a shirt to a home game. Especially after the play off nonsense of a few years ago. If you were near the ground and wearing a shirt you were nicked.

I used to sit East Lower from 2000-2003 :-)
Even went as an Everton(in the away end) in the FA CupI know some good Millwall lads and I can say that most Millwall dress like tramps ;-)

I'm WL at Stamford Bridge. Been going since 1963/4 season and it has changed a lot. No greyhound track now. Used to go to all the away games but work and cycling have messed that up. I even missed the recent Tottenham home game for aSportive and bought my fixed Glider instead of a trip to Moscow.

I've vowed never to go back to SB cos of the treatment you get from OB and stewards in the away end - bunch of twats!

Millwall will be up there this season, 6th at the mo. Be good to see em go up. When you got Leeds at home? Might go for a swift half down The Golden Lion :-)
