nearly all the french films i've seen have been total mindfucks (i.e The Piano Teacher). Not necessarily bad, really nice to look at (cinematography) but just weird plots
Damn them pesky furriners, they jes too interleckshal...

Congrats, you're more anal than me. You're right about Les Visiteurs, I looked it up. I think some of the characters are Belgian then, there's defo a connection
And while in the French language (gotta love smemantics) Man Bites Bog is a **Belgium **film. Happy?

Belleville Rendezvous - beautiful animation about a mute cycling fanatic, great score and short enough not to tax anyone's concentration span. Parfait, what's not to love?

Amelie is a lovely heartwarming film.
The Double Life of Veronique is quite possibly the most beautiful film ever made. It is flawless and wonderful.
Because I had a thing for Isabelle Adjani I also loved Camille Claudel, Subway and La Reine Margot. Subway is the best of the three, but she looks most delicious in Camille Claudel.
Nikita - the classic that spawned a bad remake and cheap TV series
Four Adventures of Reinette and Mirabelle is a quirky jolly film
Jules et Jim is a classic which spawned a thousand spoofs,
Or La Dernier Weekend a Marienbad for more classic nouvelle vogue.
Manon des Sources is great and has Emmanuelle Beart naked quite a lot, but to know what the story is about you have to also have watched Jean de Floret - an excellent film, but sadly it only offers Gerard Depardeiu.
If you want to see almost 3 hours of Emmanuelle Beart naked as the day she was born, and don't want to be bothered by a plot or anything then try La Belle Noisseuse
Or how about something German? Goodbye Lenin is awesome, as is Run Lola Run.

and what a beautiful name it is :D

I didn't think it was so flawless myself - I think the Polish Kieslowski films are his great works. There's something a bit precious about the French films, maybe the time they were made.
Then again we're not here to talk about Polish films...

both films are from the same guy, Julio Medem, check any of his films, all of them are wicked, my favorite one is "tierra" or in english "ground or soil". Another famous one is "the sex and Lucia"

Lately, I have mostly been watching 'Gomorra', which was fucking scary because it's based on fact, 'Tzameti', which was crazy good and I'm saying no more because it's best to know nothing about it before watching, and 'Suspiria', which I got 30mins through and gave to Hillbilly because it made me feel bad.
