  • Seen the same guy riding down Broad Street a few times at around 6pm. I think it's an On-One Pompino, light blue with midge bars. He wears a yellow commuter jacket... anyone on here?

  • spoted the guy on a red bike(not sure fixed or ss ) on Wrentham Street , carrying an empty cardboard box. Anyone on here?

  • ^ what size box?

  • it looked like a box from flat-screen tv

  • What size flat screen TV?

  • Me. Bike box.

  • you sold the duel?

  • No, I meant this white narrow barr'ed fixie chap mightve punctured your tyre.

i dont think so, his bike looked a lot nicer than my hack, haha

  • you sold the duel?

Yep. Sold the Duell, it's off to New York.

We had great times but it needs to go on the track. I could no longer put it through the torment of Birmingham roads and I also felt as though I was wronging it by putting risers on it so it had to go.

Vintage steel road bike for me next please.

  • ahhhh daym.
i was hoping it wouldnt sell so i could buy it when i got money aha

it was a beaut of a bike.

  • Duuuuuuuuuude. You should have said something sooner... I totally could have hung on for you.

  • Lad on a nice looking all black fixed gear coming down Digbeth High Street near the cop shop. I was walking back from Ideal in the rain with my skateboard.

  • that would probably be me, pst88 are you on a black ss/fixed?

Yep. Been slacking off the riding lately because I'm lazy though.

  • saw a bloke getting on the selly oak train in new street this afternoon with a nice metalic silver fixie with drop bars, Tried to spy what it was but couldnt see.

  • Just reinded me. I'm not a Brummie but working here. Guy on Black Claude Butler with helmet about 7.50 this morning in 'Chinatown'. Any of you?

  • not me!

  • bright orange pug locked up in cotteridge with a yellow saddle?
    anyone?

  • guy on a bianchi pista overtook me on my blasted polo bike this morning on the route 5 before cannon hill park. appeared to be fixed with no foot retention or front brake - anyone?

  • Do you lot do drinks?

I'm here for a few weeks now.

In any case could do with some pointers with

    • what to do
    • what to see
    • where to eat etc.

I'm working near the NEC on a contract but at the moment staying in the city centre and getting the 900 bus out to Coventry Road.

If anyone has a spare room they want to let short term i'd be interested - be here till mid june.

BTW - how the hell do you cycle here - where I am it just seems like dual-carriage nightmare!

The NEC/Airport out in the stix near the motorway for best access for people travelling there.

Nearest suburb is Hay Mills, then Tyseley, Then Small Heath before you get to inner City Birmingham.

The "Dual Carriageway" type road, is probably Coventry Road (A45) which puts you right between Coventry & Birmingham. You can totally cycle on it, there is even a cycle lane on parts of it. But for the busy part which is 60mph limit, it is pretty fucking sketchy.

When it turns in coventry road as you come into the suburbs of Birmingham it turns into a regular 30mph shopping high street. The Tyseley/Hay Mills end is pretty run down & shabby. Small heath has a lot of south asian supermarkets and fast food shops. With a strange mix of super islamic stuff like a Madrasa, Mosque, islamic conference centre, islamic book shops etc with a Massage Parlour Plonked right in amidst it all.

By the time you get to the end of Coventry road you will pass the Birmingham City Football ground, then face a mighty difficult roundabout setup as watery lane which is part of the ring road which surrounds the city centre.

Once you get across it you will be on Digbeth High St and it will be plain sailing from there. You will pass hip brummie locations like the Custard Factory, scummy club/pubs like the Rainbow (most people actually really like it) before getting into the city centre.

You will pass both "on your bike" and "sprocket cycles" on your way to the city centre, but you wont see them as they are on back streets.

  • BTW - how the hell do you cycle here - nightmare!

Ha ha - Your last comment is still echoed by myself! Where are you from originally Goodhead?

If you want stuff to do and stuff to see - get out of the city centre. Moseley and Kings Heath offer (in my opinion) a better introduction to Birmingham folk. Better pubs with nowhere near as much "high-street" food outlets.

  • i think i spotted lee outside my window about 11am today, but i can't be sure...

  • ^goddam peeping toms

  • My frame is still for sale everyone.
