Make sure you try the 'search' facility first or you will be tarred and feathered if you ask questions beforehand.

The BB won't work, it will be English threaded, your bike is French threaded. Threadless BB should be £15-20 and you will be laughing, get the shortest spindle length one you can find it will make chain line easier. You will have no problems putting a 120mm track hub into the frame, might need to much around with a spacer or 2 to get the chain line right but thats about it.
it depend on which peugeot it is, some peugeot are english threaded like mine.
my rear wheel wasn't mavic open pro, it's Mavic CXP33s, still decent rims mind, but the open pro suited the bike better than a deep V rims.

Edy, if you decide bidding's gone to high let me know... I'd probably go for it. Otherwise help yourself.

JDB I owe a pint !
choose:
I have to tell you the story !
basically i was bidding on that ebay auction for that bunch of good parts...
then my grlfrnd tell me she got us tickets for STEVIE WONDER:
Auction ending at 8:12, concert starts at 8:0
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I downloaded the iPhone application for eBay auctioning and after a bit of testing (yes I'm a geek :-) ) I managed to understand how to bid last second...
so i was outbided from someone and i knew they would have been bidding each other an making the price much higher, so I waited all day and at 8:11.30 sec (Stevie wonder was late on stage thanks god) in the middle of O2 arena (at least O2 has full signal in the arena rather other operators don't !) i was tapping like a crazy on the iphone to place the bid last sec, which i did and...
WON ! ! ! ! ! !
:-)I'll collect all the stuf fin the afternoon and start (hopefully soon) the project ;-)
i wanna thank JDB as the instigator of all this and without him I would have never spotted/looked at ebay !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I owe you a pint anytime ! -

Get yourself a ebay snipe account.. allows you to automatically place a bid last second.. and organize it several hours ahead!

edscoble,
did you keep the existing front brake on your pug?i can't use the shimano sora i got now because the nuts are too thick for the holes on the frame.
on the other side the screws are too short so don't reach the other side,
i managed to put the front brake (longer screw) on the back wheel but that doesn't help as i want keep the front one instead...
the screw is really complicated it has 2 threads one bigger one smaller i'm not sure it's easy to find in longer size (i need one longer than the front one...)
or i will just keep the original brake that comes with the peugeot .. -

Edy if you figure out a fix out the newer brakes on they will work a lot better which is very useful if your running single speed. Bike shop should be able to help you out with a longer mounting screw. Any luck with getting a threadless BB yet?

HI JDB, \
this morning i went to putney bike shop and they can fit a longer screw on that brake it will be 4£ (minimum labour charge)+ 6£ part. I wil probably do it anyway.
i mounted the back one already ( I need to fix it tho..)
Then today i went to the BikeBoy in portobello market (same guy in bricklane0
and he suppied me with a pair of schwalbe lugano + labour to take my old parts off and mount the new one on.
TOTAL=45
I bought a z610HX chain ( 3/32 ) for 10.95job done !!!
The tricky bit was to unscrew part of the old bottom bracket, you need a very special tool that the bike boy didn't have handy so I had to run around like stupid for a bit and HalfPipe in golborne road was useless (they scratched my frame too! trying to unscrew it) .
The guys at the bike shop in All Saint Road really know their shit, and the owner a lady, is very cool.
I gave the guy a fiver and he sorted me out (even beeing really busy as hell).I guess PLATINI will be a bit disappointed now !!!
Hey, you will need to find a new Ghost Bike Candidate (it actually sounds cool for a rock band!)
ciao!!! -

Good job. Have fun. By the way, was it french thread on bb?
-
• #37
HI stallion,
thanks!no it wasn't french, the lady at the bike shop said when they have a UK stickers they have "standard" thread.
So I put on the shimano BB easily. I was lucky :-)I will buy more cosmetic pieces like the seddle etc.
I'm selling now on eBay the carbon seatpost (that doesn't fit anyway) and maybe some other spare bits so i can get some money back :-) -

I love it when a plan comes together.

edy,
your bike looks really great :-)
this thread is great as well.
i am starting to convert my giant ocr4 into a single speed:-)
-
• #40
Hey thanks!!! without this website and JDB I would probably still looking for parts etc etc
i really have to thank them.
i don't htink it looks GREAT, but is a conversion on a very low budget with good parts.
this way i wasn't able to match the color scheme (silver maybe is better with the red etc) but the bike is really a smooth ride because the parts are quite good for the price.
so I'm happy anyway.
i will blog the project on my blog with more details later (hopefully)
thanks! -

great thread guys and excellent result eddy
hopefully do something similar when i acquire a raleigh to base my project on -

Just having a read through some conversion threads and this one is very close to home! I have a Peugeot which is pretty similar to the ones in question on this thread. The only name/number that I ca find to narrow down what it is is the frame material: 103. I'm quite happy with the bike in general, it just needs a few things doing to tidy it up.
*edscoble *- did your peugeot come in that beautiful purple or did you have it resprayed and replace the original decals? -

I love that colour. Mine is white, you might have seen at on tues on the roof. I was still running a freewheel, but I've the fixed out now.
Were you just taking photos or were you riding as well? -

Might as well stick up a pic of my recently completed conversion.

I think I'll talk to you on every thread you post on!
Have you ever built bikes before? Do you know what you're doing with them? If not the Sheldon Brown is the man to ask about pretty much anything bike related!
http://sheldonbrown.com/
and here's the link for the fixed gear page:
http://sheldonbrown.com/fixed/index.htmlI've been meaning to post my Peugeot on here anyway, so here it is!
This is how it was just after I'd converted it to fixed. The only thing's I've changed are the bars, seat, tyres, pedals and adapted the rear wheel:
Then I got new forks, stem and headset:
And I've fitted a front brake the old BMX way so that I can barspin:
I think it's cost me less than £100 including putting new tyres on. I did although have quite a few spare parts already from other bikes, so bars and things were free to me. I also did all the work myself, so didn't have to pay a mechanic. I hope you would be able to do your own bike, you get such a good feeling from it when it all comes together, but don't risk ruining a perfectly good bike if you're not sure. There are plenty of people on here that will be very happy to help. -

It's not that hard really, make sure you buy the correct tools and don't under/over tighten stuff !
-
• #50
no have never built bikes before...the aim is to buy assembled bits and pieces then attach to the frame...so i'm not goona build wheels from scratch but buy built wheels and put them all together..if that makes sense
stallion you are a legend.
to save some money i would go ask for a wheel etc. (If the ebay auction will go crazy high...)
Much appreciated your help (this is what forums are for ! ) unfortunately i live west and it's a bit complicated to ride my "ghost bike" to Peckham to be honest (i'm not a skilled cyclist yet).
I'm sure that ebay or not I will pester people here to get some advice on how to assemble etc
thx
