I think the undrilled brake bridge attachment might not be a problem after all. The ziptie is only loosely tightened just to suspend the guard clear of the tyre and isn't load carrying so could probably bodge with fishing line or anything.

you could use two zip ties looped perpendicular to each other to attach it to the rear bridge. i'm also looking at the crud catchers for the road bike. they look pretty well designed.
