So what's the difference between a hipster and a fashionista? I thought they were the same thing.

I love the tizwas that people get into over things like this, best of all it seems Mr Smith is getting in the biggest stress over it just incase he gets mistaken for a hipster. A true sign of being a hipster if there ever was one.

The 'fraudax' tag (I prefer Faudax) is one I've only come across recently. It's perfect for me. Tommy is putting himself down to label himself thus. He's hardcore.
ctc magazine are being a bit disingenuous (shock horror, journos are a bit lazy, in order to 'get' a story), there are plenty of people on here who are members/use their forums, and we've had a bit of cross posting in the past.
All my contacts with CTC forums have been really good. Its a great 'place', friendly regulars who are really helpful, with a healthy dose of tongue in cheek to keep it real.

The October edition of Cycling Plus magazine, does a feature on 6 SS/Fixed bikes.
Burls Titanium - 8/10 [9, 8, 7, 7];
Surly Steamroller - 6/10 [7, 7, 7, 6];
Pearson Cartouche - 7/10 [9, 8, 8, 7];
Fixie Inc Blackjack - 8/10 [8, 7, 10, 8];
Fuji Track - 8/10 [8, 8, 7, 7];
Condor Tempo - 9/10 [9, 9, 9, 9];The overall rating doesn't always match up with an average of the test scores, but its subjective, rather than scientific.
There is also a brilliant article about why riding fixed is so beneficial.
In fact, I am now seriously considering it, at least to further improve my fitness efforts.a 6 for the steamroller?!?!

it seems your supposition of my agitated state is a long way from the truth. the only thing that is likely to get me mistaken for a hipster is my bagaboo bag which i use for carrying my stuff around, shopping in sainsburys etc. my usual cycling attire is way off the hipster radar and so is my bike. i'm too old to care about agonising over whether an NJS nosewipe or keirin sweatband is going to make me look cool.
I just find the whole hipster thing amusing.

Rob has had those since he was in the navy, when the word 'hipster' referred to a pair of trousers and old st/hoxton was where you went to buy furniture veneer, cheap suits, cheap whores on commercial rd and wholesale shoes.
So when would that be....sounds like last weekend!!

a 6 for the steamroller?!?!
Yep, exactly. I don't know quite why they didn't like it so much, but surely averaging based on their own points system, would have given a 7/10.Maybe Surly refused to give them a free bike? I dunno. Harsh I think.
I'm thinking I was fair in my assessment in an earlier list-thread:
"Surly Steamroller complete £539.99 *(not built for lightness, but for long-lasting endurance; respected)*" -

so pronounced faux-dax?
-

yeah it hasn't really changed that much in the fifteen years I've known it. Except now EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF GRAFITTI is constantly being photographed by cunting tourists and 'arty' students who couldn't create a piss up in a truman brewery.

very correct, yep faux-dax

I have that magazine here, let me try and grab a few quotes on why it doesn't scored that high.

right here it is;
"The Steamroller didn't quite live up to it's own hype, as there are better fixed options for this kind of money. It has the name and the look, but the ride isn't up to wwhat we expected"
plus, it's closest competitior is the Condor Tempo that sell for a £100 more, which is "a lighter and more refined version of the Surly, and the most versatile bike here - happily doubling as a winter training bike or a weekend blaster. if we were spending our own money it would be on the Condor - and if we plenty to spare, we might blow it on the Black Jack..."
