Hello All,
Very interesting thread. Im after some wheels for my very first fixed wheel.
I had decided on H plus son deep V in black for strength really. I plan to tool around london really and dont want a broken spoke to untrue my wheel and stop me in my tracks (I've had lots of them in past)
Now I'm not sure....Velocity deep V's, open Pro's, Dt swiss, weinmann and Mavic CXP 33's have all been punted about on this and other threads.....GA2G does a good list, and started me off but now I'm stumped.....
So for my needs....london streets, strength, price no object.....
(seeing as Son of H plus son replied I'm rooting for the new guys...)

Benander: "You can spec any Condor as you please. If you want 'fast', responsive wheels then get some Mavic Open Pros laced to the best hubs you can afford with the lowest spoke count that your weight will allow. I'm 6' 4", 205lbs and use 36 hole and they are still straight and true after a year. If you weigh a lot less then 28 could be ok for you, speak to your wheelbuilder. The trick with light feeling wheels is to keep the rotational mass to a minimum, hence forget the deep section rims like Deep Vs, besides which any aero benefits only come into play at speeds that you will most liklely not regularly hit riding in London. Also you can save weight with latex tubes and the lightest tires you can find, although you may trade off puncture resistance if you can this route"
I'm not really after speed or lightness......and am 6'3 and 105 kilos.....
Interesting.....I currently have 16h Shimano road racers....they seem to be OK ( 1 broken spoke in a year) but my 28h Gipp wheels from an OTP bike were always breaking. The shimanos were v.pricey though.
Do deep V's really make a difference for heavier blokes or is it the amount of holes?

Big-G. I would suggest you get something built up with 32 or even 36 spoke hole count.
Velocity rims are strong, as are Mavic Open Pros and CXP 33's etc. You can't go wrong here.
H+Plus Son look nice and happen to be strong, but priced at 60 fucking quid!

strength and maintaining trueness without spokes, has to be deep v's. no arguments.

a high spoke count box section touring rim and plain gauge spokes. for exampla a mavic A719
not a hipster rim though so it depends if looking cool or using an aero rim for time trialling is more important then durability. -

the new giant bowery has 24 hole h+sons on.....so they definatley make em...... you just gotta find em.
