Haven't found a knee warmer that can cope with walking around off the bike at all

I got Endura Singletrack shorts too. Wear them with Endura padded undershorts, and then when it's cold use the FS260 Pro Knee Warmers as well.

Cheap, yet good. That goes for most their clothes.
I have some reall nice knee warmers from them. I also have some Giodana leg warmers, which are very stretchy and comfortable, but a bit cold (maybe better for the UK).

Went with the pearl izumis off probike, seemed like the best deal

I used to have campag ones - they were shite. Got given Rapha ones.. were quite good and fitted really well. Gone a bit baggy now though - but that's after 5 months of almost daily use.
Quick tip - don't bother trying to wear knee warmers without bib shorts (or waist ones) that don't have another grippy elastic strip thing, they will always fall down and you will feel like a whore pulling them up all the time.

Or just buy 3/4 length bibs, ffs its england, a significant portion of the year is below 20C, so just buy the right clothes for the climate.

I have some Briko ones - thick and nice, retained their integrity really well for 2 years now, and some exte-ondo ones. Lighterweight, ideal for spring/autumn in tandem with armwarmers.

3/4's dont work on me, as I'm fat calved, short arse. They always bunch around the knees, as I have very short legs, but wont streatch over my fat rugby calves.
Separate knee warmers plus standard bibs, gives me a more versatile fit.

'zactly. Bib tights win. Until recently I only had 1 pair (now have 2 - thanks santa) hence the knee warmers.
Give up and look like a cyclist. Fuck being cold or uncomfortable

Bibtights are great, and often give better warmth for the hips, where legwarmers dont reach, and the bibs you're wearing dont have the same extra thickness.
But I'd have both though. Being able to pack legwarmers + arm warmers in my jersey pockets is fecking handy.

I tend to use legwarmers/armwarmers on days that start cold but will rise up into the 20's later on. At the moment that is clearly unlikely, so may as well have the protection for the day with no worries about the knee warmers slipping down.
Smallfurry - i have ridiculous sized calves (combination of genetics and fencing), but my 3/4s fit fine with out the bit below the knee rising up and bunching.

Does anyone else find it really hard to give up their kneewarmers come spring/summer?
They're like comforter blankets / crack.

wear them until they threaten the integrity/consistency of your tanlines.

With you on the fencing thing. The constant bouncing on my toes in karate/kung fu, gave me mental sized carves. Being a rugby forward (albeit the smallest in europe) doesnt help.
Its my height (5'7") that fecks up the fit.
Anyway regarding the issue of relying on thermal legwarmers with not so thermal bib shorts. There are a few thermal team bib shorts about (castelli did some for Cervelo test team), which solve this hip freeze (+ some nice ones from Northwave). Currently Probikekit have the Pearl Izumi Garmin thermal bib shorts (and tights) on offer 50% or so off.

Try some rapha (will now duck and hide as the usual trolls have a go at me) they do cut their clothing less to fit euro-wraith and more the British rugger physique.
Scherritt was complaining that his thighs from sprinting require an xxl bib short at the very least from most italian clothing suppliers, he could not believe that I fitted into a rapha m or l bib short (my thighs were less than 2cm smaller in diameter than his).

If Rapha fit. Then they'll be worth the money.
I can get my thighs into a medium castelli, but its not a pleasent image, believe me.
NSFW contains ill fitting lycra, a troll, and a man in a wig eating icecream.

I've only got Rapha bib shorts - they fit so well. If I could afford the tights I'd be all over them.
I've got two pairs of dhb tights - they also seem to fit me OK, though the zips on last year have broken and they are quite snug on the thighs.. but for £40ish a pop I'm a happy man.

Fuck 'modular' cyclewear. Fleece-lined bib tights over padded bib shorts.
-

This is going to sound like a stupid question but as I am not a road cyclist at heart(TM) and am new to the world of lycra I do not wish to commit a serious faux pas.
Anyway, does one wear ones socks under or over leg warmers? By socks I mean cycling socks. -

Under.

Definitely over. And if you have black warmers, you MUST wear white or bright yellow socks. No other colours will do.
