  • You could do worse than drop your CV off in any you want to work in. We get it quite often and sometimes its easier than advertising. Its retail so staff come and go. Failing that check the websites of the bigger chains:
    Evans, Cycle surgery etc...

handed out about 15 cvs in person, and applied online for evans, and apparently no jobs available in cycle surgery
just looking to see if anyone knows someone who knows someone who's related to someone

I will do this, so long as working in a bike shop means being able to actually work with bikes/sales/mechanics/talk about bikes/talk about normal things.
Not like the pub I work in now, where I'm told not to talk to customers and instead should stand around like a plum tree; when actually said customers have only come to this pub TO talk to me because I'm the only one thats not actually dead in there. Its like, what else do people do in pubs, they drink, go to the toilet a lot, sometimes eat things, but generally they chat. crazy yo.

  • Bumping - applications by end of the month

Union Cycle Works is hiring a new programme manager to run a new cycle maintenance training course for 16-24 year olds.

Shut up and pull us a pint!

  • nah, what a dump that bar is, appears nice on the front of it; but today sustained considerable chemical burns to every finger and both thumbs and on wrists thanks to some serious cleaning chemicals being put in a container claiming it was actually hand sanitiser; then insult to actual injury, wouldn't even log it in the accident book. WTF. Manager is in on the 'moro, needs to sort his place out. Took a thermonitor in the other day, behind bar temp varies between 22C and 28C, average over the 8hrs was 25.5C. Not sure there is an upper temp working limit, but its hotter than the air conditioned kitchen by a good bit, so not exactly fun either.

  • I'm looking for a job.

Ideally looking for a junior web designer or developer role but also any junior digital or IT roles. Would also consider part-time bar work(I have experience).

Graduated 2 years ago from digital media. Worked for a year and a half as an online producer at a publishers, mostly doing small bits of HTML & CSS, fixing bugs and making small mpu/banner ads. Then worked at an agency as "the it guy". Did a short stint putting up job adverts on another publishers sites.

If anyone knows of something pm me and I can pass on my details/cv/portfolio to you or them.

    Thanks

  • Sandy, I work for a web-startup, I don't think they are looking for anyone now, but most the developers here use python and javascript/flash, and they are extremely non-specific which surprised me at first, might be worth learning. I'm no expert but maybe that helps.
I'll think of you if I hear anything.

  • Re-cycled (the charity) are looking for a fundraiser: Add reposted below; nothing to do with me...

Re-cycle is a small, fantastic charity that re-cycles unwanted bicycles in the UK by collecting then and shipping to project partners in Africa . We are looking to grow and develop and want to find an amazing fundraiser to set up and manage a trust fundraising function for the charity, pretty much from scratch. It will suit someone who is excited by what we do and who is confident and self-motivated. The post is (initially) 3-days/week and is based in the south-east, either home-based or at offices in Brighton or Colchester

There are more details on the Re-cycle website at: http://www.re-cycle.org/Jobs/Senior-Trust-Fundraiser

I've never touched python but I used flash a fair bit at Uni and have tinkered with JavaScript. Currently trying to learn php rather than just be able to edit it in wordpress.

It seems to be that there aren't many junior positions around and if there is they seem to want 2-3 years commercial expierence, which I don't have solely in that role. The pain in the ass thing is that at Uni I used a variety of mediums so I've become a jack of all trades rather than an expert in one area, which is what I'm trying to do now.

On a different note I'm very happy to do work for free for non-profit organisations.

Totally fine, just go as deep as you can, I'm sure there's lots of demand for people like that, small comapnies I'm thinking, but you never know.
    Good luck to you.
