  • I have made a couple of pairs of custom skate/cycle shoes in the past and a few guys have asked me to put up some docu.
Just made a new pair so here goes.

    Tools:
    (Glue £1.49 Tescoburys)

    **Old Shoes. **

(Thanks Seldom Killer for these old Shimano Shoes)

Gut and skin old cycling shoe.

Cut hole in skate shoe sole.

    Glue insole in place.

Pack with newspaper.(I use the Guardian but it don't really matter) Wait a day.

    Fucking-voilà.

Remember, always tie your shoelaces and tuck them down away from the chain.

Rode them to Polo today, up and down Cable Street and around Richmond Park once then back home to Stockwell.
    Held up grand.

  • Nice, might have a go at that some time. How are they for the other shoe based activity of walking?

  • Same broad flat grippy platform, just the sole is a lot stiffer.

Rubber compound is better on skateboarding shoes.

    hehe :-)

  • genius. thanks!

  • you rock mr. mak thanks for posting this for us!

  • might try this, cheers

  • Me thinks you could set up a nice little cottage industry doing these conversions for people!

  • can you skid in them? great idea, but surely the glue / sole will rip and you'll come a cropper?!

  • Nice 1..
    Will be trying this.

mack has no brakes and skids all day log - they don't fall apart

  • Nice one MA3k. I've wanted a pair of these ever since I saw yours last year. Might have to give this a try some time.

  • Eric Koston would be proud. Do they work with Muskas? What about the classic Sal Barbier?

  • You rang?

Here is some I made earlier, got some blue hi-top Sals with the Velcro as well.

You are using really strong adhesive to secure proper cycling shoe insoles in-place inside the skate shoe, so no.

Important caveat: Tie your shoelaces(which might seem a bit strange in skate shoes I know).

  • My only worry would be that shoe stays on pedal and foot comes flying out - skate shoes were never designed to have the laces done up tight.

    Cool tho.

    edit - gah too slow!

  • Nice one! Do you need to make sure that the cleat position doesn't make the shoes hit the crank arms? They look pretty close in the pics.

  • it's probably decided more by the insoles.

  • That must be it because I have never had any problems whatsoever.

  • You should brand them "Richard Reids"

  • No.

  • Nice.
Does the old cycling shoe sole that you put into your skate shoe have to be a size or more smaller?
Are you the guy with customized Vans cycling shoes that I see going into that film school in Covent Garden?

  • The sole is from the same size shoe.
    Vans? Not me.

  • Both of your "old" shoes look in better shape than the majority of my everyday shoes!

  • I've just dug out my 18 hole Dr. Martins bovver boots, time to get cutting ..hmm white or red laces today?
