Mick, you cunt, cars have these belts in and they last years of car use. A bike excerts a fraction of the force. This has been discussed before. Shut up, and go to sleep.
-
• #279
they do stretch but not that much, but the difference in cars is that there is't that much tension. anyways, just adjust it as neccessary, whats the big deal

You must be thinking of chains.

But it's night.
there are 24 hours of the day .. and at the moment there is something like 11 - 12 hours of darkness... I don't discriminate between the two ... it all part of the "day" ... you pendantic shit.

Power + belt = harley davidson, seems to work ok...
By the way, I had a lecture on adhesives and the guy (from loctite) was saying that a good glue should be stronger than the material it's sticking, which he demonstrated with a PU rod, the rupture would not be in the glue but in the material.
So, you could in theory cut your belt and stick it back on. Best cut with an ultrasharp smooth blade to get two matching edges and therefore maximum contact area between the two bits.
Alright, now where do you get belts and matching pulleys? -
• #288
Rough edges would give most contact area. The main problem I can see would be holding it together perfectly in line while it dries.
-
• #289
I don't think so, even with something that looks like it matches perfectly, you get about 2% of contact area on a microscopic level. then again you can splice it in a zigzag from the top and get 4/5 more contact area. Designing the rig for perfect alignment could be fun. Do you recon it's worth a try?
Mind, it might be easier to cut you seatstay and weld it back... -

no

Lotus glues it's chassis and has done for years.

Clearly you were all drunk when you were posting, and sleep-deprived.
Am now speaking to both Phil Wood and Gates about their stuff, probably going to get the Phil Rohloff sprocket and the Gates belt and beltring.
-
• #293
free i hope??
-
• #294
No, but maybe I failed to tell them that it's my birthday.
I don't generally get free stuff. I'm British, can't haggle for toffee. Though if anyone does have this gift then do feel free to haggle on my behalf.
-
• #295
Once I gave a shit about this stuff and then I realised I was too lazy to fit anything new on my bike unless it was 1) the old piece was broken 2) I gave a shit.
Belt drives seem to fit into both.
When are they going to make this cheap... will be awesome.
What made you change your mind? -

Quite right, you can't imagine the horror of reading my own words.
No really, I stand by it. But you know it's just an idea, I'm not saying it would work or anything. -

Just tell them if you get a belt drive set up, all of your many minions from LFGSS will be tempted to emulate their almighty leader. Tell them to look at it as a form of advertising.

I'm doing that just to acquire the stuff. You know, I can't find a single retailer in Europe that appears to list this stuff on their website and will ship it immediately if I were to place an order.
Phil Wood should let me be their UK distributor, as should Gates. I'd rock at it... easiest thing in the world to sell quality components that have a market already and lots of people willing to part with cash for it.
