  • My Moon Meteor Storm is on the way out after I failed to clip it in to it's mount correctly and it went flying. The plastic mount attached to the light itself is broken and it doesn't feel at all secure any more.

What's the go to front light for commuting with the (very occasional) night ride thrown in? Needs to be USB rechargeable, have decent battery life, I quite like a pulse setting and bonus points for being compatible with a go pro mount. Not looking to spend silly money but would also rather buy something that lasts for years so not dirt cheap either.

  • Yeah maybe. Will check it out in the shop. Thank you

  • Probably standard response but one of the many exposure offerings? Take your pick on size, runtime and fittings (there’s adapters for GoPro mount and different shaped bars/racks etc). I’ve still got a joystick from 10 years ago going strong that I use for this kind of riding. Particularly like exposures pulse setting round town or on drizzle/rain.

  • Yeah that's what I'm thinking! Is the Trace worth a punt?

  • Not used it myself, but have used various of joystick, revo, strada and they’ve all been solid. Just make sure you get one with a physical button, I found the capacitive switches a bit fiddly especially in gloves.

  • I have 3 trace and never had a problem.

  • Yeah that's what I'm thinking! Is the Trace worth a punt?

Fab light but you'll want at least the Sirius for occasionally seeing in the dark.

But there is also the Boost, it might sit somewhere in the middle.

All have plenty of easy mounting options.

I've had some issues over the years but always had them rectified at no cost.

  • Just got carried away and made an offer on a Sirius on eBay. I was looking at a Trace on there which is why I asked but it didn't seem like too good a deal in the end.

  • talking of exposure sirius, does anyone know if it fits in a trace mount?

i've got a project 76 TT mount and their gopro adapter is out of stock so i'm wondering if their trace mount will work for me. https://76projects.com/products/modules-for-computer-mounts?variant=43982266958040. But I feel like the diameter of a sirius is a bit wider than that of a trace?

  • talking of exposure sirius, does anyone know if it fits in a trace mount?

    Nope, bigger diameter light

  • Question for the XC lot, can you get around in the dark (not full send) with either:

    Exposure Race
    Exposure Toro

Race has price/weight/recharge benefits (smaller battery that also gets a 36 hour longest burn but this only useful if bright enough turned down!).

  • 4+ years ago this thread recommended the Exposure Trace/R.
I've always been very happy with these lights,
once I sorted out the lengthier seat post strap,
(my Boardman has a 34.9mm doamater seat post).

Solely due to use, the rubber band on the TraceR (rear light)
was about to separate from the tab.
A quick exchange of emails with Exposure customer services,
and they popped a couple of replacement bands in the post FOC!

Good products backed with exemplary customer service.
Are there any recommendations for usb-C charging Exposure lights?

  • My Moon Nebula rear light has shit the bed. Bit disappointing having only had it a couple of years. Any recommendations for a USB rechargeable rear light that will attach to a rear rack? I've been happy with Moon before so not put off them completely if they have a decent option. Not looking to spend silly money but would prefer to buy something that lasts.

  • Does anyone want Exposure cases/boxes?

We have a few lights that we have no plans to sell so keeping the zip-able cases seems a waste of space.

  • I have an Exposure front light which I do like. Not sure about spending £20 on a solution to bodge a mount though. I guess it could just go on my seatpost to be fair.

  • I’ve recently got a new exposure redeye (I know it’s not battery) but was pleasantly surprised to find it had a tapped 5mm threaded hole in the back to allow for easy rack attachment (and older version did not). It also came with the same mount as the TraceR rear light. I don’t know if any of the battery lights have the same, but might be worth a look to see

  • Oh hippy yes please they would be perfect for our field recording equipment.

  • Ah, good to know! Thanks. Unrelated really but I googled "Exposure Redeye" and this came up which seems like a compelling alternative.

  • I bought an Exposure Trace R in the end. Good first impressions, nice and bright, small, feels solid. Any suggestions for saddle mounts? It looks a bit silly sticking out from the back of my seatpost.

Decent enough ‘be seen’ front light down to £5.50

I ordered one a few weeks ago to tip me over the free shipping threshold but have since ordered x3 more to keep in various bags as back ups.

  • Looks ideal, thanks!

  • On the subject of TraceR mount, I use the standard seatpost mount but over the course of a ride will shift position and rotate slightly around the post. Is griptape on the post the best solution?
Surely it can't be my puny hamstrings interacting with the mount?!...

  • If you're frame has the mounts, I've found things like the PDW light nug are the best way to mount rear lights like the tracer.
