Also, you'll only ever hear about the problems. People don't tend to preach about how little trouble they've had with a light compared to the number of people that preach about a problem...

Indeed, that's true for all manufacturers though - and I doubt Exposure would claim to have more users than some of their competitors, who don't seem to crop up as often in fault/repair threads. That maybe because cheaper light users just suck it up, keep quiet, and chuck them out though. I guess I'm possibly unfairly expecting an 'expensive' light to be more bullet-proof than a cheaper one though (I'm slightly paranoid about them failing at 1am in the middle of nowhere!), when in fact the opposite is probably true given they'll inevitably be more complex..

No, that's fair, I would also expect a more expensive item to be of better quality. But a couple of years usage followed by a £10 repair is pretty decent in my books. Though my Lezynes have been fault free for 2.5 years. knock on wood...

Toss up between lezyne and Exposure for me atm. I own 4 lezyne lights, one of which failed after a year (it was a zecto drive - got the name wrong up thread).
Evans have Lezyne macro 600xl / micro y9 for £65. This looks like it would do the job, and they seem to have good reliability overall. Not sure what more I would get by spending £100+ on Exposure.

Maybe I should just send it back and pay. I will in the end, as it's a great light.
I'd just expect an expensive light to last longer. I have not used it that much. -

I've had to send my Hope lights for repair several times (Vision 2, District+). Mostly to do with dodgy connections with the cables or battery packs. No issue doing it, even out of warranty but yeah it costs a bit if you send then special delivery.
That said, they're more reliable in the wet and have better mounts than any Cateye I ever had.

Ive been running one of these off a USB battery in my frame bag, super bright and great value. Also been properly soaked in some quality Yorkshire rain. Absolute bargain. I've been using one but bought 2, going to double up when we get into deep dark winter.

Yeah, to be honest, I've always avoided anything with an external battery pack as it just seems seems like something extra to go wrong or weaken with use (particularly as a standard micro drive will run for 24hrs on it's lowest setting and still fry your retina if you look at it!).
As you've probably gathered, I just fucking hate having to send things back.. stares at pile of Rapha stuff with stitching issues

I've got two Strada mk2’s from back in around 2012. I bought them second hand late that year and use them (or my wife does) daily with no issues. Also have a flare rear which has had no issues. The only problem I had was with one of the strada's chargers, but they swapped that for free.

Same and same. Bought without a battery pack, use my own, think its 4000mah and it will easily last 10 hours. Mega bright, have to point it down a lot and run it on low setting so not to blind drivers.

I hear the brackets are a bit flimsy, or are they sorted now?

• #4465
I've been using those a lot too. Curious to hear about your USB battery pack - how do you plug it in?
-
• #4466
you would be mad visible though...!

I have one of those (or a close cousin) bought about 2 or so years ago. They are bright enough for country lanes with no street lights. I've only used mine on night rides. A thumbs up from me.

A load of the lights just terminate in a USB plug so you can plug them into whichever USB battery pack you want.

Damn mine has this weird plug, not an USB one. Weather sealed tho

I have always had great service from them, things within warranty dealt with FOC.
When my 3 year old Diablo developed a faulty switch they also replaced the battery and the repair was much cheaper than a new light.
These days I am an Exposure fanboy, their current Strada light with remote switch is fucking awesome. It has such a wide beam that it lights up out to the sides so well that my fingers get lit up when down in the drops.

I really like my Blackburn Flea 2.0 rear light but it appears that a) it's battery is a bit crap these days and b) they don't make the light anymore. What has replaced it that has a handy, strong clip that can be used to attach a rear light to a bag, jersey pocket, band of a cap etc?

aliexpress offerings as disposable consumables IMO

What's the run time on that and the battery pack size? 2 cell? 4 cell?
Yeah, agreed - and that's partially why I'd like to buy some - but in my last 50,000 miles of cycling (and I do a lot at night) I think I've only had one break (Moon) and that was cheap enough to chuck out. My Hope and Lezyne lights seem to have have been in almost continuous rotation during that time and never failed (if they had, I'd have been royally fucked at times).
To be fair, I'm sure there are others who've had the same situation in reverse though..
