Lights

  • For info.

The second Moon MK2 I ordered from Ebay was actually a Chamelion. Does loads of different colours.

Could be an ideal back up light. As you could chuck it on the front or rear. But the red isnt as good as the dedicated rear, and there is only one white setting that only lasts 2 hours.

  • The number of settings is bit crazy.

  • I want colour changing light. Is it illegal? Probably is. Fucking rozzers ruining fun.

  • I was going to do my 5min hill repeats this evening with it on purple.

That setting seems to have a good brightness and runtime figures.

I'll ride to and from the hill with it on white I guess.

Ideally I'd wire it to my power meter.
Blue for Pootling > green for sweetspot > yellow for threshold > red for supra threshold > strobe for VO2 max.

  • Ideally I'd wire it to my power meter.
Blue for Pootling > green for sweetspot > yellow for threshold > red for supra threshold > strobe for VO2 max.

Also has potential rigged to a breathalyzer.

  • Is it illegal? Probably is.

Under UK law, a rear light must be red and a front light must not be red. It's fine to use on the front in green, yellow or blue mode.

  • I just had a quick google and could only find info stating the front light must be white. Blue, green etc colours are for emegrency vehicles only (maybe this doesn't apply to bicycles?).

I couldn't find the exact legislation though.

  • It's really noticeable in purple.

You can't see with it. But you definitely stand out.

  • I just had a quick google and could only find info stating the front light must be white

You must have a white front light and a red rear when riding after dark, but you can have additional lights in other colours as long as you don't show white to the rear or red to the front. If you show blue lights, you may have to convince Mr Plod that it isn't, and doesn't resemble, "a blue warning beacon or special warning lamp"

  • I'm old enough to remember a time before the invention of white LEDs, and we used to use yellow ones as supplementary lights to give ourselves a chance of having at least something working when the main front light was the infamous Never Ready

  • I can remember useless giant lights with a pathetic bulb!

  • Talking about different coloured lights. Submarines on the surface display an amber flashing light, once whilst transitting through the scottish islands on the surface the control room watchkeeper reported another submarine on the surface at about 6,000 yards range. Unfortunately for him that put it on goat fell just where a snowplough would be in winter.
30 years later we still take the piss.

  • never bettered...

  • Er, so, wait, what, is this a real Moon product you can't buy here or a fake?

I guess I should be asking @Smallfurry that.

  • Tricky to mount on the bars though.

  • is this a real Moon product you can't buy here or a fake?

All the reviews of the Chameleon variants seem to be in Chinese, so my best guess is that it's a real product but only supplied in Hong Kong (Moon HQ) and/or PRC (they have a factory in Shenzhen)

  • My first job paid £5 a week. The commute from Chingford to Pall mall in the dark with those lights used batteries in 3 journeys. The cost of those batteries for those lights in winter amounted to a bit more than I earned. I had to stop on the Lea Bridge road 3 times a week for new ones. I think they were £1.80 or so.

  • That's actually a bike light? Now I feel young again. I assumed it was one of those lights you see hanging on the back of trains.

  • The eBay moon mk2 squeeze under Norwegian import limit.
With delivery, the UK ones don't. So that why I bought those.

I see loads of cyclists running flashing red lights at the front.
    Proper fucking confusing.

  • Thinking of getting a moon meteor 200, £36 on the bay, unless anyone can suggest something better in a similar price bracket? I don't do much unlit road riding, but would be nice to not ride in constant terror when I do find myself on a pitch black stretch

  • I've found my Cateye Rapid 1 pretty decent for it's size, and is USB rechargeable. It's been in full blast of the spray from my rear wheel for 2 winters, so is well waterproof. I'm sure the newer / higher power ones also work well (e.g. rapid x3).

    Well, bollocks.

I just received the one I ordered from Bike-discount.de.

It's a different model, a 'G' variant, that has only one mode - full on.

The fuck am I supposed to send a torn packaged light back to fucking Germany. Probably cost more to post than I paid for it.

  • Anyone come across see.sense lights? Chatted to a guy who works for them last night and they seemed pretty good.

  • If you hunt around you can normally get them for about £25 ish (although now may not be the best time of the year...).
Also, the battery drain in cold weather is quite marked so if you're using it in the winter you need to be a bit careful.

  • Nice one, ta!
