Yes. Yes they have.

Like just about everyone else with a smart rear [that's what they tell me] any wet stuff and it's a goner, so how come a major light manufacturer can get away with producing a light that isn't fit for purpose? Any legal beagles on here?

You can sell what you like provided you don't make any false claims, surely?

No, for any class of product there is some base standard which an individual product must meet unless it is sold explicitly as not meeting some particulars of that base standard. That's what is meant by 'fit for purpose'. A light must illuminate, even if the marketing material doesn't make specific reference to illumination, because in general, lights illuminate.
In the specific case of a product sold as "cycle light", there is a presumption that it will be usable outdoors in all weather conditions under which a reasonable person would engage in cycling.

People, you must look at the new Lezyne Mini Drive front light that cost £50.
it outshine both my Exposure Joystick and Hope Vision 1 in term of prices, it's also rechargable via usb port and changable battery, it make the equally price and already shite Cateye light look rubbish.
already a handful of staff at my shop brought it.

What's the clamp like Ed?
[I've not had the best experiences, in the past, with ones that look fairly similar]
-
• #1733
Hasn't tried it admittedly, however the two other staff at work already been using them - will ask them how they are.
-
• #1734
Look like you can get replacement clamps (I've also had on-off experiences with that kind of fixture).
I was thinking of picking one up at the end of the month. Not sure if I should go for the Mini Drive or the one up from it.

Got myself an RSP Astrum based on the reviews on this thread. I'm very impressed. Smaller and brighter than I was expecting.
All I need now is a not-too-expensive front light to replace the cateye opticube that I've got (not too bad but not great either).

Loads of options in the list on page 1 of this thread. Some of the links might be broken, but just copy-and-paste the name of the light into Google search and Robert is your mother's brother.
There was a super offer that I recommended on here recently, and many forumengers have bought it. It might suit you also, and the bonus is that because its a 2 light combo, you get a spare rear light. This can prove very handy. Only £12.95 too, so it doesn't break the bank.

3 watt front light and 1/2 watt rear light.

I'm slowly reading through this thread while debating new lights on which new lights to buy - so far I think Im just gun a get some of those hong kong type torch things (my dads turned up today, seems quite good quality, but how do you change from one mode to the next or is it just lucky dip like it seems to be now?) that issue aside they seem quite good for under 30quid.
My mate also received his cheap eBay light recently, seems really good but I don't want an external battery supply as they look ugly and I don't need that much brightness for my uses.
For the rear I'm thinking a mars 4.0, or just use the one that comes with the front and see how I fair.
I really do love my current lights though, from decathlon, just over a tenner for the pair, I've had them maybe 8 months and they haven't let me down at all. Theyre the ones that look like knogs. And they fit everything from the 25.4 of my Raleigh bars and seat post, through the 31.8 of oversized bars, all the way up the 34.9 of my downhill bike seat post, really can't rate them highly enough if you just need a light to be seen :D

You might as well wait for a full moon* to light your way, because Knog lights hardly throw out any light at all.
The Mars 4.0 is excellent though, so why put something so ineffective on the front?Makes no sense.
*****Or even Hayley's Comet for that matter.

£150 Exposure Joystick is 325 lumen High (3 hrs)
£50 Lezo High (150 Lumens) / 1hr
So, it's not 'just as bright' and the run times are nothing alike. Exposure Flash is 110 lumen, 3hrs, £30 btw
Welcome to ed's test lab - pish and fye to your fancy-schmancy laborataries with your measuring equipment - Ed has turned the lights on in the shop, that's real data, right there!!
next week Ed reviews the latest aerodynamic developments in carbon wheels by spinning them round a bit in his hands, squinting a bit and making a gentle tutting sound
oh eddy…
:^]
Ed, you've already been called out fort this once on this thread.
Stop lying to people about things which could actually effect their safety on the bike. -

Frankly, I'm still sticking by what I said by it's being as bright as the expensive alternative.

My Blackburn Fleas are approaching their first year and have been good to me. Still going strong and very bright for their size.

I do plan on getting one of those very soon :D, maybe an eBay jobbie for the front or a topeak or something - cateyes seem not to reliable :( had trouble with the one I robbed off my dad today :(.
Just thought id say I was impressed by the b-twin ones, really have been spot on for lite up roads, my dad has a set for back up lights, and I'll be keeping mine for just that, and different bikes to save faffing with brackets :)

You're testing lights with the lights on. Are you fucking serious?
The run times on those lezynes are shit.

After a bit more reading I think I'm going to get the Hope Vision 1. Got plenty of spare and rechargeable batteries and I'm not convinced on how long the the mini drive will hold it's charge.
-
• #1745
The run time is for the brightest mode, rather than for the lowest.

• #1746
And?
Its still shit. -

Which commutter set has the best mounting brackets? I have found both cateye and smart to have terrible mount systems.
-
• #1748
exposure flash/flare have a good mounting system and it comes off totally

I too got myself an RSP Astrum recenelty and am very impressed with it. I got mine in a set with one of these, which is also really good:
http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/rsp-night-sabre-1-watt-led-front-light-id54106.html
very bright, feels pretty robust and is quite cheap.
This is them for sale as a set, it's a lot of light for 28 quid.

^thanks t-4003
I saw the set and was tempted but I wasn't convinced by the mount and also the lack of side flare. I want to be able to transfer the front light quickly and easily between bikes. Might opt for led torch and mount as shown previously in the thread. (and get multiple mounts for quick transfer between bikes).
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like
