Good man. I will be in Crystal Palace Tri kit. Will pm you details for a catch up at the end, if you are still around.

  • im all in for this
    riding my felt

  • I'm in, Rapha'd up on a white Canyon! starting early... so i get beer early ;-)

  • i am staying out for as long as possible, top up my staycation suntan.. :)

I have never done the ride before. Is there a landmark/end of event cafe we can nominate for all forumers who want to catch up at the end?

Humm, "topping up my sun tan" is a magic excuse/reason for a leisurely tour.

  • The finish is in a social club off Burbage Road and, if it's like previous years, you get a free pint at the bar at the end. I'd suggest you catch up there (sat outside in the sunshine).

If anyone would like to watch some proper racing, then there's a London Cyclocross League race across the road at Herne Hill velodrome, starting at 1 pm (for an hour).

  • ^sounds like a smashing plan.. only staying for one pint mind,
i've got to get back to NW8 and the domestic chores of house husbandry :(

Don't worry. When did a single pint ever turn into a raging session with domestic nuclear fall out?

  • Don't s'pose anyone's found themselves with a place on the ride, but without any spare time tomorrow morning?

I'm quite the opposite, a sudden change to my plans this weekend has left me with a gap to fill. I'd like to fill it with some falling leaves, but the event has sold out. I could always sneak in, righto, but TBH I'd feel like a bit of a wazzock if I didn't have a bonafide spot.

You would be fully compensated for any registration free, obviously, and if you're at all based near Old Street then you'd also be welcome to a miniature bottle of Rioja.

you obviously know me well, see you tomorrow..

Well, as the current organiser of the Guinness Ride, it could be said that I have "previous", so to speak.

  • ahh vitamin G best recovery drink ever.. i has previous also :)

  • I am in but don't have a place- just gonna tag along and make a donation to the charity like last year, and pay for my own pint at the end :)
Shall be all in black on a red Graham Weigh. Might even pop my forum cap on under my helmet.

  • The TroisV (e.g. Doug and I) will there. Possibly with heat stroke.

Good point. Aim early people, it is going to be a hot one, and stow a pouch of energy dust in your back pocket.

I suspect it will be fluids rather than food, that will be the issue as the return over the north downs comes into view.

  • A fabulous ride today in the unseasonable weather. Managed to grind around in 4:23. Couldn't keep with any of the groups that whizzed by me. Felt OK on the road, but in the queue for beer had something of a funny turn. I s'pose if you're going to bonk, 10ft from the bar is as good a place as any. Didn't see you out there, Katie-Coo.

  • Took one look at the queue for the bar and the other queue for food and decided that I would pass out if I waited that long! Went straight to the garage down the road for refuelling instead.

It was a great ride, but it would be even better if the organisers could supply tap water at the end.

    3 3/4 hours for me.

  • ^there was a tap providing drinking water out in the car park bit at the end. did me just fine.
had my eyes peeled for you out there, kate, but didn't see you. didn't see ludwig either, apart from at the start, so I clearly wasn't paying attention.

  • We didn't start til 9am and did the long course so would have been behind you the whole way. Was a great ride- hot but not passing-out-temperatures, brilliant hills and some stunning views. Bad choice of pasty for lunch.

  • Er, am I right that Brave finished 2nd and 6pt 6th (naturally) overall?! Hope I haven't read those results wrong...that is brilliant!

  • Ah got it. I was after top 10. always nice to take 6 on a list...
The guy who came first (by 17 minutes! obscene!, if he's the one google suggests, is a former olympian. I draw the line at chasing down olympians. even if they are old.
him discounted, only 3 minutes off pace (which can be put down to traffic lights and shit at climbing)

  • You were the sixth participant to make it. :)
