Are you rollin' again this year Shootsy-poos?
Thought it best to quit whilst ahead ; )
I know you'll be going faster this year though.
Something about a "cussing expensive rig".You coming on the TNRC deluxe ?

I know exactly what joe means. If you've got the gear right on your fixed then at least you know that more of your work rate will be going directly through the drive chain. Before climbing fixed everyone thinks it is going to be difficult but they are actually pleasantly suprised. the key is having the right gear for the hill in mind. too heavy a gear and you'll blow your knees and thighs.
plus one for Joe
- 1 for scarlett for taking the opportunity to tell us how fast he can get up muswell hill ;)

According to Joe 48x19 is the perfect gear for Toys ;0)
Personally I think it's something lower than the 39x26 I currently have to deal with.....

^Maybe I'm not your average rider, but when I went up TNRC Whitedown on 70% fixed
70% fixed? You and your fancy drivetrains...

This talk of fixed vs gears ia irrelevant.
Th real story is, will it be pissing down?

^ I have it on good authority that Sam will be bringing good weather with him.

I think scarlett nailed it with his first indexed point "i) not used to using gears to cop out".
The reason that I am slower on gears up hill is because I CAN change down and so I do. Repeatedly, until I have no more gears. Then I slowly creep up the hill, mentally berating myself for being a pussy. This is a) not possible on fixed, b) not what BMMF or Dov does.

Contemplating this, but it is sold out. Anyone got a spare entry?
May have to do 70k, due to home commitments.
Happy to pay for entry, even if I end up not riding.

Yup, I have an entry going spare (have to give the ride a miss due to unexpected family stuff going on at the same time) ... what info do you need to take my space?

Cool.
Dunno, presumably our name and any registration number that you have been given? Possibly your club if you have registered one.
PM me?

I was going at 70% effort in both 45/17 and the geared/mudguarded setups.
70% effort is where it's at this year. I've checked the trends, and
agefashion is dictating a 1% drop in effort each year for the next 40 years or so. -

Metcheck says otherwise, here's hoping...

Factually incorrect, I climb like a fucking girl.
In fact that is also incorrect as the last time I climbed a hill in front of me was the sight of GinaG riding away. I'm of the belief she is a girl.

Being dropped by Gina means you're in good company.

Let's have a nice sub-thread while that lot batter on about fixed v gears.
Not sure about it this year. The rig is indeed vastly improved, but the engine on top has way less bike hours, is older, fatter and balder! Tempted to seek out that picnic.

I don't think I'm going to be able to make this one. Worked 8am til 8pm with no lunch yesterday, and it's going to be worse today. Tomorrow I have to work on my car for the MOT next week, and Sunday it's going to piss down.
I know I should HTFU and all that, but if it wasn't raining I would most probably ride.
Anyway, I rode it on Tuesday night and for me that would probably beat Sunday hands down.

Anyone have an official place for this they aren't planning on using?

hand shakes, back slaps and belly laughs all round.
