  • Where are people getting their theses bound?

I'm hoping they have a quick service....

  • I have used the copy place in ULU if you just want plastic/metal comb they can do it in 2 mins. £3 or something.

  • Oh weird my UCL course has an official method of binding, has to be done in hardback blue cloth blah blah blah probably cost a fortune... i thought it was a UCL standard or something

  • All we have in the guidance is:

Two copies of the Dissertation should be submitted, neither of which will be returned to the author. Dissertations should be bound securely, but need not be professionally bound in hard covers. Students must retain an electronic copy of their work and submit it if asked to do so.

But the copy shop also does profesional binding as well, think £17 or £25 according to their website

    http://www.ulu.co.uk/content/index.php?page=92

  • My undergrad at Queens in Belfast was hard bound as it had to be, just borrowing a comb/spiral binder from my mrs.'s mum's school and doing it at the weekend. Just printed out the final copy (minus the shiny colour pictures - that's tomorrow's task). Feels more beefy than I'd imagined, only 11, 000 words, 48 pages.

  • Hah - I was just about to ask the same question! ULU will probably have a HUGE queue on Monday though - which means I won't be able to skate as close to the 4pm deadline as I'd like to. Hmph.

What are you chaps planning for (gasp!) post-submission? I'm going to ride to Brighton and back on Tuesday (probably with a hangover). I found after my exams that the best way of moving on is to go for a long long ride. (I was planning to meet a friend somewhere in between here and Holyhead (just ride till our paths crossed), but writing off the Surly has put paid to that...)

  • Wow nearly there, just one more time of reading and I am going to get printed and bound tomorrow!

  • I hate you. Mine isn't going to be done till the very very last minute. Urgh.

    (Well done though!)

  • Printing started! Now to find a UCL cluster room with a colour printer to do the rest of the pages with pretty (read: useless) graphs and sh1t.

My mrs is in the same boat as you emilia, mine's just finished early because it's really really bad. Met with my supervisor yesterday and handed him a draft...

Me: Will it pass? Because at this stage that's all I want.
Him: Pffffft, hmmmmm, yyyyeah, but you could ad....(sentence cut short by a whooshing noise and a me-running shaped hole in his office door)

  • There's a lot of UL on here. I'm doing an LLB at Birkbeck. There always seems to be crackheads hanging around SOAS!

Yep same here, meeting him last week was told its good enough, its not 'terrible' but could be better! I am free and over the moon!

  • Anyone got any good tips for getting over the procrastination/loss-of-concentration thing? All my usual tricks have worn out. I can't even guilt-trip myself any more. Urgh...

  • I'm afraid it's just HTFU with visualising that post submission pint

  • i spent all day today trying to get mine hardbound. its so fucking expensive and binders dont work weekends :(

stupid ucl regulations for me which are different from everybody elses ucl regulations!!

Is there a UCl weight limit on a dissertation ?

Hah. I'd so much rather be riding up a hill than writing a dissertation. :(

    Nearly there...

  • fuckers, I am starting mine right now to be handed in at christmas.

  • Anyone got their result yet?

(And who hasn't ended up in an 'unskilled' manual labour type job?)

  • Not result but told I passed.

I'll keep quiet about the second one, for once.
