  • HOLY FUCK!!

  • i'm feeling ever so slightly nauseous

  • I saw a program on discovery about those hornets and japanese bees, was dead interesting.
Was about a monk who kept European bees in Japan, but kept losing them to hornet attacks in the summer, so they studied both of them and found that the Japanese bees could fight back with the awesome kick-puch temperature trick, so he started breeding them as well.

Vic - why butterflys? they're brilliant!

Now Daddy-Long-Legs...shudder and there was a fucking huge spider in my flat last night

  • HOLY FUCK!!

Alex don't you dare turn this into a beedog thread!

  • sorry... was going down the route of big wasps/bees... couldn't help it. :)

Wasp with the second most painful sting of any insect.

  • shit thats one mean stealth mofo,

what's the most painful sting then?

  • The bullet ant, named on account of its powerful and potent sting, which is said to be as painful as being shot with a bullet. It is called by the locals "Hormiga Veinticuatro" or "24-hour ant", from the 24 hours of pain that follow a stinging.

Check out the pain descriptions - my two favourites:

2.0 Yellowjacket: Hot and smoky, almost irreverent. Imagine W. C. Fields extinguishing a cigar on your tongue.
4.0+ Bullet ant: Pure, intense, brilliant pain. Like fire-walking over flaming charcoal with a 3-inch rusty nail in your heel.

Though how he can describe the pain of a bullet ant sting as "brilliant" is beyond me

  • As a young boy, Kenneth Halliwell, lover and eventual murderer of the playwright Joe Orton, witnessed his mother dying after she was stung on the tongue by a wasp.
There's a lesson for us all there : avoid pop - stick to beer...

  • I'm terrified of these bastards - and I mean terrified...

  • Although i don't like many insects, this is the one i fear:

  • HOLY FUCK!!

  • bee's used to give me the fear until i did a shoot in a field of borage (the purple flowered stuff in farmers fields) the whole field was full of bee's going about their business and as you walked through they just moved out the way and went to the next flower. the humming was really loud, quite an odd experience being amongst thousands of bee's.

wasps can fuck right off though.

  • I suffer from anaphylactic shock when stung by wasps too.

Its annoying when someone says just "stay calm" when a wasp comes along, seriously the best bet is just to get the fuck away without antagonising it.

Always have the epi pen in my bag - made sure I told someone about it before the start of the Canterbury ride.

Like Chris says - try to get a couple of them from your doctor.

  • You don't have taipans and brown snakes so your bodies have adapted to react badly to other bites.. how evil.. how ingenious! :)

Great shot of your kid on the track. Some of the Slipstreamers come out with the Willesden - I think Ray and Brian are coaches there. They might be young but they can certainly challenge some of the guys in the race to the scones..

  • This thread is horrific...
