9 speed last forever, the most expensive groups these days are made for performance/weight and not durability.
Or so the common wisdom goes.
I'd love a BMC but the speeds I'm doing in town (ow hai risk averse person + crappy roads) can't really justify it... ;) -

a) one of my bikes has a bash guard
b) I keep shifting my chain onto said bash guard -

Limit screws?
-
• #4180
Adjust your upper limit screw and maybe the height of your front mech

Oh I know why it's happening, I just keep putting it off. That's the confession.
My dark, dark confession.

I'm still sat in my lycra at my desk and I have no intention of getting out of this cosy roubaix lined stuff until my afternoon meetings. Deal with it, colleagues.

My drivetrain sounds like the gates of Mordor. Haven't cleaned or lubed it since... early December?

Better or worse than working from home in the nude?

I confess honking at a pedestrian walking through red, and choosing one of these traffic lights that stays green for a whole 4 cars to do so and then lets you wait quite a bit. Still.
Temper, temper.

Mine was making that noise... It stopped when it snapped as I tried to pull away from lights... Could have been much worse...
-
• #4187
I've actually snapped two chains in a week now!
But my reason for confessing is that I just tried to transfer spokes and a rim from one wheel to another in the insane hope that as they were vaguely similar hub gears made by the same company they would have similar flanges...
I hadn't noticed that one was 36 hole and the other 32... That's not the worst bit, when I transfered accross all the drive side leading and had one left I thought I could carry on regardless, the spokes might still be the same length... Took at least another 5 mins before I realised the rims would have 4 empty spoke holes.... Aarrgghhjfff

I love the trainers thread, genuinely fascinating subculture and funny as fuck too.

I confess that I rode to the shop last night and forgot my bike lock so "locked" my bike up with a bungee cord.
-
• #4190
Where did you get the bungee cord?
-
• #4191
From the rack on the front?
-
• #4192
That would make sense
-
• #4193
Yep what Indra said.
I was on my Rack Pomp.

At some point in the past I had no rim tape so used hockey tape...
I can report this fix lasted for over a year without failing, but I've just tried to change the inner tube and the tape and tube are one.
