  • Tough break, on the good side you didn't have a great deal of memories of it so you should be over the emotional side very quickly..
Financial is a hole new story - get your ass out on the social events and you got a good chance of putting together a scrap heap challange number with begged and borrowed parts

  • Bad luck elguapo, my comiserations.

  • Ohhhhhhh, I feel your pain. I've just written off my pride and joy (rain, skid, lamp post) and am still coming to terms with the fact that I'll never ride it again. It's almost worse than having it stolen, because it's now sitting in the corner of my room, making me cry every time I walk past.

  • Ouch!

    I feel your pain

  • Tough break fella...
    Thieves are scum.

  • Do you have household insurance? You should be able to claim on that if you do

  • sorry to ear, my condolences

  • bad luck mate. How was it locked up?

  • oh man. thats a shitter. what can u do innit, just rotten luck.

  • Shit. Heartbreaking stuff.

Makes me wonder whether we can set up a fund that acts like insurance... I doubt it, but I wish we could.

We could try some of the insurance companies and see what they say in terms of an FGSS policy- the forum has approx 3,000 members now?

Personally I pay £675 for my "out of house" insurance just to cover my bikes, I am sure that an insurance company would be over the moon to get 10% of this forum, even at £100 less than other companies are offering.

I'd be happy to contact a few if people were interested?

That aside- Elquapo, if you can ride a 57cm feel free to borrow mine until you can buy your own again.

NB- make sure it does not get nicked!

  • sort of on topic:
after havign my bob jackson stolen, which pissed me off mightily, but also took it on the chin, i then built up what i considered to be a beater, an old raleigh 531 conversion. however, i now really love this bike and would be really sad if someone stole it, possibly even more so, because i kind of feel sorry for it, like i saved it and made it something greater than it was before. it looks lovely and people always comment, but it's my pub/beater/anti-theft bike.

i think i'm doing something wrong.

  • there's something noble about saving a frame from the scrap merchants...

  • i also have bike parts to donate if you want to make a frankenbike...

i have never had a bike stolen (not since i was 6 anway) and guessing this will be good karma and protect my steed for a little while

  • Shit. Heartbreaking stuff.

Makes me wonder whether we can set up a fund that acts like insurance... I doubt it, but I wish we could.

Why not? Depending on the circumstances, I know I would cough up a cuple of quid.

  • I think parts donation is more useful. Time to start a thread?

  • this is why im taking a bike with nothing i want to lose with me to nyc/philly,
would travel insurance cover such a theft like this?
I have no receipts for anything im taking except a wheel brought on ebay

  • It took me a couple days to respond to some of you guys, I decided to go camping in Vermont to take my mind off the bike.

Not to be all mushy and crap, but it's been really great to see how you guys will step up to help out someone you dont really know except for my incredible wit and sarcasm. I really do appreciate it massively. Offers of loaner bikes and the best Hall & Oates video I have ever seen! I cant get much better than that, really.

I will definitely be showing my face at the next drink I can get my arse out to, It may be bikeless the first couple times but I'll probably be legless so it wont matter.

    Cheers guys!

    Viva LFGSS!!
