- I've just sold a pair too. I'm also thinking about what rim and hubs to get for two new pairs as well. No wonder my gf thinks I'm obsessed...

ok then , Winston.
you started this, answer me the following question:
how much advantage is there from using tubs on the track, compared to my usual clinchers (23c @120PSI)?
my rear hub is dying, and I wanna know if I'd be better off building up a new clincher wheel, which will get used on the road too, or doing a set of DA to tub rims purely for track. As I see people coming down with wheelsets on their bags an ting.
and did you get my email earlier today? godamm this backwater

email received....don't know what hotel we're in yet...maybe even the same one....we should be alright for crew...but thanks for the offer.
I truely believe tubs made a difference to me....my training wheels are tubs and my race wheels have vittoria track specific 19mm tubs, there was a choice between slick or tread...chose slick coz I mostly race on outdoor tracks and generally only train at Newport / Calshot....they weigh a crazy 128g ....amazingly light!!!.... and take 215psi...I pump them to 180....yes you really notice the difference....quite expensive at forty quid each though.....although there are much more expensive track tubs out there.
BUT they are delicate, so a more substantial tub is in order for training and track leagues .....as clinchers get better there is less of a difference between a medium grade tub and a top clincher (prorace 19mm with a latex tube??) ....and for training / B league...it's hardly noticeable and unlikely to affect your finishing position in bunch races.
(Russel Williams raced on clinchers at track leagues and won everything)
If you're gonna build a wheelset just for the track, you may as well get tubs, but for dual use deffo clinchers as you can always carry track specific clinchers in your bag....
If you're thinking of riding indoor tracks don't get Michelins!!! tubs or clinchers....they are made from different compounds to most other tyres and you'll just slide right off the track before you even reach the banking....
so to conclude...inconclusive...hope this helps!

4 on bikes
6 probably being abused by the italian/british postal service- if anyone can be arsed to fix up a pellier hub that hasn't been serviced since the 70's i can give you coordinates!

Why do you have one under the bed? Is it to ward off the bogeyman? Or is it an accessory used for "hippy-love"?

In our flat we have about 15 between 3 of us. I believe 7 are mine. 4 definitely are.

I'll leave it to your (now thoroughly disturbed) imagination..
(I live in a studio flat - you make storage space where you find it!)

4 on bikes, 2 for a beater (not yet built), one that i made (thanks, wheelbuilding class!), 2x600s that are rusted and falling apart but off a bike which had a nice-ish frame. so that makes 9.

thanks for that, a lot to chew on.
seems like decent clinchers will be more than ample for me at this stage, I shall look into it

i'm using rubino pro's on my racing road wheels. can pump to 145 psi, makes a big difference. the top line open corsa's as said to be equivalent to tubs, with 240 tpi.
