  • So basically, in other words:

"I think the whole thing will just catch fire and explode in protest, before you even get on it."

Do I not get points for that? :)

    You win 3 internet points.

Basically yes, as soon as you climb aboard the rear end will initially start to smoke, then smolder for a while before bursting into flames engulfing the bike and rider.

So not ideal for commuting, although I have some interest from the BMX community.

  • Glad i saved you the effort/expense and btw your animation is 100 x better than my shitty paint drawing.

    That's why they call me '100' :p

    I was thinking . . .

    . . . dual sided coaster.

That all sounds way beyond me ! I like the idea of doing it will simple readily available stuff like fixed cogs and freewheels, I haven't completely given up, I am sure there is a simple way to have a big forward gear and a light back/rewind/skid gear . . . . . ?

  • 100 you are either Tynan or a new Tynan.

Brilliant thread. My head is certainly spinning.

  • I still don't understand. :S

  • That dual set up either side has to be an accident waiting to happen, for what you want fit a brake.

On the other hand inPBP 2007 Drew Buck rode a two speed vintage French bike that used opposing freewheels http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retro-Direct where he had to pedal backwards for the lower gear uphill

  • My head is spinning, my brain is pulsating, it feels like thinking about where the universe ends, or starts, or something. And I only read the first page of this thread.. to avoid overheating my sponge..

Why not just use a rear brake? it's gotta be simpler, less weight, less hassle, less head spinning, more pleasing to the eye, no?

I think 100's post above with the moving cogs explains it all.

The universe does not start or end anywhere spatially, it is finite (that is it does not extend forever in any direction) but it is unbounded (it has no edge/s).

Well that at least is the current consensus.
