  • essex road, midday saturday.
car pulls infront of me from the right, trying to park or something, i was propper pushing it, having just watched a morning of olympic track cycling and being slightly late for work. i pull on the front brake to avoid collision, the brake completely locks up on me, i go straight out the front door. obviously very annoyed with the driver, give her a good lung full. she comes out, appologies and that crap and get ready to go one my way, fairly grazed and bruised but none too bitter.

    but then i noticed this,

completely fucked, huge bend on the down tube between the F and E and the join between the top tube and steering tube is all skew. and i didn't even hit her. then followed getting the bus to the south bank to be dressed as a chicken for 2 hours, Fucking great fun.

absolutely loved that frame, thinks it been through a fair few forumengers hands and its sad that it was me who managed to kill it without actually being involved in a propper crash. anyway back on the langster untill i can find pennies for a new frame, its gonna feel like riding a boring black mass produced turd.

  • i prefer the fuji. especially that stem.

  • photos shit but believe me, totally screwed.

whats most annoying is that front brake locked a few days before and gave me quite a scare, i have stopped from much higher speeds before but somehow this time it just all went wrong. :(

  • fuji's my brothers ride, borrowing it for a few days, the stem is pretty ugly, but it was free so whos complaining.

  • how did it lock? i don't get it. was it a disc brake?

  • dunno, quite baffling. my current thoughts are that the clearence between the wheel and down tube was slim anyway, about 5-6mm, so maybe the headset had worked itself a little loose, and under the stress of sharp braking, the wheel could have actually touched the down tube, propelling the whole bike and myself tarmacwards.
but still to bend the whole front end of the frame just through braking stress is just wierd.

  • well, if the wheel did touch the downtube at high speed, with all that kinetic energy to dissipate, then this could conceivably happen.

    agreed very likely.

Steel road frames are designed to have give, and some flex heaps under braking.

Some track frames would be made of very light tubing and not intended for street & braking too.

  • Thats not a track frame though, its conversion judging by the bosses.

Perhaps it had a hard life before it got to you, paint hides a multitude of sins

  • just noticed the boss!

Crikey, that mustve been a lot of flex!

  • Fix It.

  • yeh its a conversion, time trial frame, built by a guy called b. nickson i think. can't really find much more about it than that. would love to fix it, needs a whole new downtube, and re-weld for the top tube (it was already fixed).

frame was in very very good condition, with a lovely paint job.

  • Kick a man while he's down; Velorution think you're a bad, bad man and seemingly have persecution issues about us all too.

  • I am waiting for that comment section to fill up. This will be fun too.

  • I'm waiting too. What a bitter prick. But then I expect nothing less from an ill-informed and ignorant fool. "Encouraging debate" again I'm sure.

  • Dear Sir,
How will the dapper chap in your photograph stop on his "fixie" with no brakes nor any method of foot retention to the pedal?
If this has a push back brake it is clearly not a fixed-wheel bicycle.
Surely brakeless and clipless is not the type of cyclist London needs on the roads.
    Thank you,
    John.

    +racist.

  • wow, i post my traumatic loss of a much cherished frame and suddenly i'm reason why the olympics are shit and chris hoy shouldn't have bothered. twats. i go a lot faster when there are foldable bikes worth overtaking, perhaps they should be banned instead? think i may post very many comments proclaiming rath, and lots of it too.

yes it was, and i loved it, and now i'm sad.

  • my comment

excuse me, this 'extract' from a fixed forum was posted by me, and i resent being used as an example of recless cycling. i cycle fast most of the time and i am always in complete controll of my bike. if however on one occaision an ignorant weekend driver decides to cut me up and then i do her a great service by stopping before i severly dent her car, i don't expect to be used as an example of bad riding. i am currently on the lookout for a new frame, and i am considering whether to seek compensation form the driver. i would like you to retract your comment that i am 'what London does not need' as many a lesser skilled cyclist would have been unable to prevent a much more serious incident. i find it quite rude that this incident has been used in this way after i managed to prevent any damage being caused to anything else other than me and my property after the neglegent road use of another party.
    yours bitterly
    Harry Singleton

now i want appologies and grovelling, though a high horse position would be nice to continue the angry comments.

  • i can't see the page

  • I note that no comments appear on his site at present.

  • I left a well reasoned comment- waiting and waiting for it to show up...

  • he's the type of guy who can't argue, but thinks he can. a card-toting member of UKIP, a BNP sympathiser, quite possible a mysogynist, serious issues about the fact that he sells vastly overpriced, frankly SHIT bikes, doesn't know when to apologise, offensive, doesn't have an intellect but does, however, possesses a tiny piece of brain tissue, kind of like an appendix, that functions only to repeat over and over again "You are CLever and I love You Say SoME moRe MEasurrd thINgs", that is all, flooding his synapses and minuscule powers of reasoning with the specious belief that what he says is right and that it matters.

this guy's idea of normal people' is made up, largely, by closet racists, superficial aesthetes, and rich fuckers with more money that sense running round in birkenstocks and buying a pashley, or a knock off pashley that weighs eleven tons and costs a million pounds.

this guy is, in short, a nasty, snivelling, odious, bile-ridden man. oh and if you're reading this, which you patently are - have fun watching your business go down the pan, racist.
