why did you pay so much for the surly? has it got expensive parts?
-
• #4
No, they just saw him coming and added a zero to the price tag
-
• #5
Yeah, I s'pose. Nothing outrageous, 105 group dyno front XT rear etc

I went past Ev**s in Spitalfields yesteday. In the window was a complete carbon Colnago for £1600. It had wheels on it and everything.
£1600!
I spent £1500 on a Surly Long Haul 2 years ago. I feel like a right idiot.
That does sound cheap. Was it a shop only deal or is it on t'internet too?

:) Why was the Surly so Expensive?

I got it from Brixton. I thought it was good value - from what I remember, I got discount on it as well. 105 triple gruppo is £300+, the wheelset was around £300, mudguards, lights, silly brakes - nice ITM bars, saddle - it all adds up. Like I said, at the time, I thought it was decent value. I could have got a better deal had I sourced the parts myself, but then I would not have a bike in 10 days if I had.

The E***s Colnago is just stupidly cheap. I'll check the parts when I stroll past tonight.

Yeah, that's it. Ahhh, carbon alloy. Blimey, it's Ultegra! That is a lot of bike for the money.
-
• #11
If its Ultegra that is a good deal indeed.
Prefer the Red/white one though.

OK, so this is from a US web-site, but this is very similar to the spec on mine, minus the dyno and with inferior hoops and probably build too.

Nasty. Looks like you have been taken to the cleaners there.:(

You lives you learns. Don't be so hard on yourself. As long as you don't make the same mistake twice!

No, Brixton are honest, and I checked the spec and prices when I was ordering it, but Evans must have some unbelievable deal, and the same for the US site.
The Colnago frame must be coming in at under £600. Which means that it's not made in Italy. Am I remembering incorrectly, or did they move some production to the Far East?
-
• #16
To be fair. By the time you pay for shipping maybe import duty etc you would probably be the wrong side of a grand anyway.
As long as you are happy with the bike who cares how much you paid.;)
-
• #17
Yeah, exactly. But, wow, that Colnago is cheap - for a Colnago!

Aye its deffo not Italian. Its most likely mass produced alongside lots of other big manufacturers. Doesnt bother me, not having the Italian made kudos.

Your memory is spot on. Some Colnagos, and the Arte is one, are made in Taiwan. I think they did this so as they can remain competitive against the likes of Trek, Specialized and Giant. -

These are the Taiwanese Colnagos they started making in 2006 if I remember correctly. Still nice though, I am a sucker for these bikes.

I don't usually go for those bikes, the ones with the dangly bits hanging down at the back. But that I like a lot.
