My favourite mod to a bike (simply because it's the most recent) is the wedgemod on my BMX seatpost. Basically the pivotal seatppost has a bolt which runs through the top of saddle to attach it to the seatpost.
I used a longer bolt and cut the bottom of the seatpost at an angle so that one bolt would tighten a quill style clamp holding the seatpost in the frame and the saddle onto the seatpost.
I then took a hacksaw to the top of the seat tube on the bike to cut it down below the slot. Hence aesthetically a clean look but still more than functional.
