  • I find it hard to put stuff on my rim.. do you guys use a mirror or what?

  • Anyone got a spare Randonneur in 28 they wouldn't mind selling me?

I've probably got two for sale, both <100 miles, they're not really working out on the Holdsworth (needs 32s I think), but I'll need a few days to buy replacements before I can let them go. Anyway PM if you're not in a hurry for them :)

  • problem is, the Randonneur is already thick in the inside, that you only need an 18-25c inner tube to inflate it instead of a 28c-ish inner tube.

if Vittoria made the Randonneur smaller, then an 18-25c inner tube would be a bit of a struggle to install given how thick the tyres are (that if they didn't shred the tyres down a bit to compensate).

  • ?? 18-25
i'm pretty sure it would work...

That would be mighty fine of ya, thank you. Ideally wanted them this weekend but I won't say no to these when you're ready to give them up. Lemme know when you want rid!

This is the question I wanted to ask. I'm running 23c Gatorskins right now and want to put a 28c Randonneur on the back for a little while to see how I like it. Is ed right and I can just use my current Vittoria 19-25mm tubes in them or should I get larger ones?

  • Yes.

But Ed's only right cos we all told him months ago when he put a 28-32 innertube inside and formed a large egg

  • jeez that was hilarious! my top tip is to hang the tyres on a warm radiator for about 20 mins before fitting, much more plyable

    not read this ^ then?

  • Right, just got a nice big orange streak on my rear tyre, rotated it but seems to eb growing nonetheless.

do I have another layer of colour before I need to change it?

Also, is there a tougher (longer lasting when being skidded) tyre, no bigger than 28c, that I could look at?

  • ^panaracer ribmo

  • ^panaracer ribmo

Think I'd rather have 1+3/4 randonneur than 1 ribmo...?

  • i remember when i first got my fixie, i went through a halo courier in one day just from doing skids a ribmo lasted me about 3 months constantly doing skids. if you do skip stops this will last fuckin ages id say

  • Fair one, may get one for the back and a cheaper one up front. cheers.

  • Touring tyres are great for those who want to skid because of the amount of rubbers between the tarmac and the inner tube.

to find a skinny tyres for skidding is an oxymoron, you'd need a decent amount of rubbers to able to last that long, that or simply resist the urge to skid at every single opportunity.

if you want tyres to gasp, shock last years, just don't skid.

  • don't care about them lasting years, was pretty happy with how durable the rando was. just interested if there is anything even better.

I live in a very hilly area and try to ride without using brake apart from emergency, like coming unclipped... due to this happening a couple of times I will never be caught riding brakeless. could have been very messy.

Resisting is well and good but doesn't cut it in somecases when skip skid seems the only way to scrub speed quickly.

Plus, skidz are fun and it feels good ragging the bike around.

  • if you want tyres to gasp, shock last years, just don't skid.

This, mon frere, isn't possible for everyone.

I never skid unless I have to, or if my legs are tired and I can't be bothered to force resist. I still go through a tyre a month.

  • You skid because you're riding brakeless you muppet!

  • You also ride brakeless.

    pffft

  • i got a brake caliper and lever you can have max.
