Here's a picture of the whole frame, I hope it goes some way to show her what her bike could be like...
That's really nice. I'm going to look at some girl's frames tonight – the other half has been hinting for about the last six months that she'd like a decent bike and it's her birthday in May. I've always wanted to put together a good looking Mixte too. That's nice inspiration. Have you built it up yet?

Not yet, hard trying to find the right parts for the right price! Only advancement from that photo is the addition of some gold Raliegh decals and installation of the headset. If anyone has a nice flip-flop wheelset for sale let me know!

Had my bike done at Armourtex, really nice finish but they won't lacquer on white though

Just had my Nigel Dean powder coated at Armourtex. Apparently it's the first bike they've done in metallic green. I dropped it off Wednesday afternoon, picked it up Friday lunchtime. Really impressed.

Can anyone tell me what RAL code I should go for to try and replicate Bianci Green/celeste with armourtex?

That was the colour that I was considering. RAL 6033 looked the closest when I was looking at their samples. In the end I went for RAL 6019 though...

That's amazing, I'd completely forgotten about this post and have since gone and bought a frame. It's exactly the same as yours. Is it a Raleigh Silhouette? The only difference, mine has some aftermarket Tange forks which are beautifully chromed but a little too pitted and scratched to make good again. Dropping it off at Armourtex tomorrow morning.

Just got my orbit back this morning, RAL 5009 and Gloss lacquer, really nice colour which is actually not so blue in the flesh

It's a Raleigh, yes, but no idea whether it is a Silhouette or not. Just need pedals, saddle, brake levers, brake cables, chain and bartape to finish it off! How did your frame turn out?

Can anyone tell me off hand what the current price for shot blasting/clear coating a frame and fork is?

You should line the lugs and pick-out the 'orbit' at the top of the seatstays? Perhaps in silver.
Looks great.

I have a feeling that if you just want the paint taken off and lacquer on top it's about £65..?

Cheers fixedcheese. Went to their webpage, but didn't find that link.
Just want them to clean some rust off and cover it with something that will stop the rust from coming back...

Really nice finish! Does anyone know if they do metallic finishes with a sparkle lacquer?

Stripping down something to be done later in the week and while for the most part everything came off lovely the wedge from the stem is pretty stuck in there (hammering, wd40, heating) considering that I'm going to have the handlebars at the same height any ways, people think armourtex will be fine powder coating with it still in there?
There website says remove everything, but eh, what the consensus, surely not much paint is going to go into the tube?

Is it just the bit inside? if so, how did you get the headset cups off? When i got my frame back there was very little paint in the headtube, it may be something they don't notice if you don't tell them ;)
or it may come out when the frame is heated when they strip it... best thing to do is call them...

It's in the forks, not the head tube, everything else came out fine so either its more smashy or get some other forks I guess. I'll ring 'em tomorrow.

I spent all of yesterday stripping my frame and attempting to dye it with ink, this failed...
...off to armourtex next week then I guess.

oh yeah, silly me! even less paint inside the forks! you could just ask them to keep an eye on it so they can grab it if it falls out, i'm pretty sure it won't get damaged by the blasting/painting...

I had the same problem, so just called it quits and took my frame to the local bike shop. The had to use a vice and a f*&% off wrench from a dock yard to get it off, but it worked.
I doubt Amourtex will powdercoat if the frame isn't completely stripped. Also, you may find that some of the threads will have to be reamed, as some powdercoat stuff tends to get in there and clog the threads. This also makes me think that not completely stripping the frame would be a bad idea...

All my threads came back in way better condition than before the powder coating. The sand blasting clears them out / strips off any rust, then they cover them for the powder coating.
Maybe swap oil with some wax used for wooden floor. These somehow dry with matte finish and do not stick. To test...
