I was under the impression frames had to be blasted as prep for the powdercoat?
-
• #528
i was wondering if anyone knew if getting a matt finish gives the finished paint job less protection then getting it lacquered?
-
• #529
all of the powder coats give the same protection.
If you have a colour + clear gloss lacquer it'll be a bit tougher bc it has an extra layer.
IMO you only really need the extra gloss lacquer if you want it really shiny or the colour you get isn't that glossy

I rang them again today and they've said another few days because they are waiting for a new batch of the colour.. should i haggle the price down due to the time its taken..hmmm?

I had a problem at armourtex as well, they didn't cover the seat-bolt hole and the bolt wouldn't go in. It was sorted in the end, but they offered me to redo the all thing free of charge.
Actually, they messed up more than that, 'cause I took 2 frame and they swapped the colors... they
eventually offered me some reduction. -

@ pojo! - always worth a punt at haggling, they are a business and they seem like sound guys so sure they wouldn't be offended

Jambon, how did they mask off the stays? Yours is the first frame from armourtex I've seen that isn't one solid colour. Usually they bake it to get the old paint off or prepare it or something, I was just wandering what the process was with yours, as the chrome looks pristine. Or is it just bare metal?

when i got the frame it was all sanded, apart from chrome stays and forks. When at armourtex I asked if they could mask off the chrome and they did it. The matey when i paid did say it was a bitch to mask though.if you want to look at some detail pics: http://img195.imageshack.us/g/dsc2229cp.jpg/

No not yet, it's 58cm and if you search "viscount" in the search you'll see the for sale ad.

Sending my road bike frame there as soon as pay day rolls around. I was a bit worried about how well they would mask of the chrome but that looks tidy!
