I think it was a gd idea not using your d-lock as it could have been worse, imagine if u started flapping ur lock and hit one really bad, they could have got more agressive against u and even ur gf.

i think i'm just being realist. obviously it would be nice for people to be less shit to each other but it isn't going to happen. people don't live together in large groups particularly well. if you think our country is a more developed country and this is not an uncommon occurance, what is is like in less developed countries with more poverty, more social problems, less domestic security?
