  • it's a nice place. it has savage hills. i've been riding a lot, down into the mendips and beyond. there aren't many other people riding fixed here, at all, although i think i've met the 7 that do.

on the shit side, last night my bob jackson was stolen. i don't want to go into details of how, but i suspect that either i failed to lock through the frame (i have never done this before, ever, so somehow doubt it) or they cut through the frame, or they picked the lock. it was a kryptonite. anyway, i'm philosophical about it, as well as pissed off. if you could keep eyes peeled, on the off chance that it surfaces somewhere. perhaps.

dark blue BJ, lime luglining, 58cm, chipped to fuck, sugino 75 cranks, gipiemme black pedals, regal saddle, silver push seatpost, nitto bullhorns, rear wheel black unmarked, front spin tri-spoke, goldfinger lever, campag record brake , pantographed moser stem.

on the positive side, this morning my holdsworth finally turned up, just waiting for campag pista chainset to arrive, then it's built, pics to follow next week. it's like karma, bike stolen, other one arrived.

  • That sucks about your Bob! Can't believe it, dude

There's a few guys who ride fixed in Bristol - Danny Wainwright and the crew at 50:50 ride.

I lived there for a few years - I didn't really ever like it to be honest... Good luck dude!

  • morning, i was just wondering when you'd be around. so you finally got here then, thats a shitty welcome for ya though.real sorry to hear about it, i'll keep looking out. we've not met yet though im pretty sure of that.

  • bad luck mate.
    The Holdsqorth looks sweet.

I may be in Bristol on the BH weekend, if you're about.

  • Ouch. The question is, is that your Abus Steel O'flex left at my house after monday night drinks? Hope everything else (apart from the bob theft) is gert lush.

  • peej sorry to hear that, but glad your philosophical as ever. big up the holdsworth, too many bj's around these days anyway, even faux antipodean vikings ride them to pillage.

  • I may be in Bristol on the BH weekend, if you're about.

the bristol jazz festival that weekend. the old duke, king street. get down there.

  • Pisser about your Bob Jackson getting lifted. I hope whomever took it gets what coming. I like to believe in karma.
You can take (some) comfort in that Holdsworth arriving though. It looks very nice indeed.

What bits will be going on it?

  • that sucks pj, hope you get it back.
    the holdsworth looks nice.

  • shitty news man.

    The H does look sweet...

    But still, shitty news.

  • Sorry for the loss PJ.
Great to see the Holdsworth finally.
Who did the work on the frame?

  • oh also i forgot, mooch over to bristol bike workshop and let them know about the theft, they are pretty strict about buying stuff 2nd hand but if they know there's a nicked spin tri spoke around etc they can be extra vigilant.

  • looking forward to seeing it build up pj. lame about the bj.

  • holdsworth work done by colourtech, not quite the colour i wanted, but used to it now.

will be mavic module E 27" wheelset, campag pista bb and chainset, prob big nitto track bars and deep drop stem, 1950s seatpost, angled, brooks b17, honey coloured.

basically, a mixture of old and new.

heads up - SJS have mavic rims in 27" size, NOS. rare as hen's teeth.

  • real shame about your bike mate,

Ive just finished building up my bike and since going out on it Ive realised im absolutley terrified of it getting pinched!

Ive ridden far more expenisve and desirable(to thieves) 26" jump bike around and left it locked badly.

But Ive procrastinated and taken so long getting this bike together, which also features my first wheelbuild. Im very very fearful and realise how you may feel.

When I passed through Bristol recently (forst time ive been in years) I immediateley saw a hipster type on an aerospoke so I thought they must have a huge scene there now.

But overall, with the many other times ive been there what I noticed a lot of was vandalised bikes. There seems to be a popular passtime of smashing bikes there, bikes totally bent to pieces with folded up wheels everywhere.

If you get a few local people to keep an eye out I reckon its fairly likely you could spot & track down your bike, maybe put up a little flyer in 50:50 and some of the bike shops.

  • fucking hell mate, though good job on your attitude about it.

  • Sorry to hear about that PJ. Holdsworth looks lovely, let karma deal with the thief.

Hope all's going well - are you tempted to get a mtn bike? Good riding to be had down there.

  • How did colourtech get the colour wrong?

  • well, i asked them to match it. it was an off-white, very light cream colour. it's now pearl white, as in almost iridescent, jodie-marsh-teeth white. but i like it now.

was just looking at the dropouts and i can't the wheels in, very tight. i had this problem with a holdsworth before. i think the spacing is 115mm. hmmm. to coldset or not to coldset.

  • That sucks, you'd have thought that after moving from London you'd have less problems with bike crime! Sorry to hear about the BJ PJ. But that Holdsworth is, as they say in your new manor, lush.

  • Thats rubbish about the BJ. The Holdsworth looks nice. I am in Bristol this week untill Friday. Are there any Bristol drinks? If not is anyone interested in drinks this Wedneday or Thursday evenings?

Love the Mendips, spent loads of time there as a teenager camping and caving. Around Blagdon, Cheddar, Rodney Stoke and Priddy. Great area.

  • ditto to the above dude.

you gonna put some mudguards in them eyes? You know it makes sense

  • Sorry to hear about the BJ man - I'll look out for it.

Guess I'm one of the lucky seven riders you might have seen up and down the Gloucester Road (on a Charge Plug with white Deep Vs and white bar tape)...

A mate of mine had his Nikolai MTB stolen from his garage in Brentry (~£2200) and it showed up 3 months later in a drug raid in Avonmouth - moral of the story? Get the police on it as well - you never know when it will turn up.

The Prom Bar on Thursdays (Gloucester Rd, across from the Prince of Wales/Hobgoblin) is pretty good. Tend to go there on a nearly weekly basis.
