How do you know your skin issues were related to the nature of the cut?
It is small otherwise they wouldn't call it a "micron".
-
• #278
Why I switched from electric to safety razor:
- cheaper in the long run (factoring in cost of replacement screens/cutters)
- makes it a pleasant ritual, rather than a chore
- closer shave with less irritation, once technique dialled in
- actually takes me about the same time, as electric shaving needed 10 minutes of going over and over and over…
- prep is the same: bath or shower first, or nothing
- the build up of stale sweat / skin on an electric razor, even if cleaned fairly rigorously, is not very healthy or pleasant
- cheaper in the long run (factoring in cost of replacement screens/cutters)

^ ^ And how do you know it isn't? I didn't say I knew, I said I suspect. I'm open to the idea, you're the one dismissing it as meaningless.
A micron is considerably larger than a skin cell for example. Small is just a relative term. I might be coming across as pedantic, but I'm just saying it's not meaningless just because you can't see it.

Yeah, come on, hippy. You've not seen your cock in about a decade, but it must mean something to you or Mal.

I went the other way, from blades to electric because it's
- cheaper in the long run (factoring in cost of replacement blades and razors)
- makes it a pleasant ritual, rather than a chore
- it's not as close a shave but chicks love my 5'oclock shadow and I found there was more irritation with razors than electric unless I waited too long (3-4 days) before doing an elec shave.
- Daily electric shave for me takes about 1-2mins, razor was longer as I only shaved in the shower and then struggled to get everything with no mirror so I'd have to go back to bits.
- Never noticed any buildup of anything except hair which I never bother to clean out and don't care about. Razors included blood and pimple pus and hair so aren't much better.
- cheaper in the long run (factoring in cost of replacement screens/cutters)

Because the image you linked to suggested so. I don't have any studies on the matter. I'm more than happy to change my opinion if there's some data showing one way or the other.
I can see it (it's up there) but the authors themselves said the image was on such a scale that the difference wouldn't be noticeable.

We got rid of our chooks when I was still a child. I don't miss them and enjoyed the cubby house we got from the old chookpen.

I just thought it noteworthy. I could research it more, but that would ruin the enjoyment of talking out my arse.

I bought a new 4 blade safety recently.. but that was for my legs so I'm not sure it counts.

My blades cost about 5p each, and last nearly 2 months. The razor is built for life. Fuck your cost analysis.

I don't shave with Bics any more. Fuck your 5p blades.

Did you say you used feathers? 2 months is really good for a DE. I'm using derbys and they tend to catch a bit after a few days.
-

I was exaggerating a little. I don't really keep track, but I think I eke out about 8 to 10 shaves from a Feather (only shave twice a week), but I've done longer when not being particularly fussed about closeness during periods of self-loathing. It would still be the same if I was shaving more often, as I'd get away with a 1 or 2 pass shave.
Feathers are the sharpest, but also hold their edge very well. Derbys were too blunt for me from the off. Scare stories about Feathers put me off for a while, especially in my 'weapon' of choice - a slantbar - but have still been the best out of those I trialled (about 8 different types in a sample pack from Connaught Shavint).
If you get on well with Derbys, I can chuck you a box (I think they call this 'paying it forward' in shaving internet geek speak, but I wouldn't really know). When I say box, I mean box of 100 or whatever. When I say 'chuck you', I mean gratis.
You're at UCL, right?

That's very generous of you. I would take you up had I not just bought 100 feathers from kazem on Harrow road. I haven't found the derbys to last well either to be honest. I do one across the gain pass, and the derby's catch after a day with that.
-
• #291
Ah well, nevermind. They're still there if you end up wanting a batch of disposable blades, plus I've got a few left of various kinds to try if Feather's aren't your bag.

Can't believe people still actually wet shave. The cost of the blades is completely mad. I recently bought the babyliss i stubble which is great. No longer painful and you can still get a really close shave.

O RLY?
roughly two years supply of everyday shaving. £9.
-
• #294
Yeah, looks like I'll be getting about 10 years of shaving for £10's worth of blades. Outrageously expensive.
-
• #295
is that £1 a year then?
-
• #296
You could say that.

I just got myself a merkur DE and some Geo F Trumper shaving soap, which is really nice, plus three trial packs of blades. Did the first couple of shaves with the merkur blade that came with it, will try the others next week.
I managed to cut myself a bit the first time due to my poor technique, but I think I am getting the hang of it already. On the positive side it goes through my stubble much easier than the 5 bladed shit that clogs up after one pass.

Being a twice-a-week shaver i have been indulging in a weekly shave at one of the many turkish establishments along Stoke Newington High Street. for £4 you ca get a lovely wet shave (straight blade). My favourite place includes a head massage for £2 more! Definitely worth it if your in the area.

After many years of using disposable razors I decided to bite the bullet and try out the old style way of shaving.
It is amazing! Far better than a disposable. It's a much closer shave with one pass, cheaper in the long run and I actually enjoy having a shave now.
I went and bought these:
An Edwin Jagger DE89 razor
Badger hair brush
Shaving cream
At £45 it sounds expensive but as a pack of 8 disposables cost £10 upwards you soon make your money back. A hundred DE blades cost £8 and you'll get around 400 shaves from that.
A mans shave!
Hence why I said it only meaningful to individuals. And it's not that small, a micron is visible in a optical microscope.
Like anything dermatological, it depends on your own skin. The shape of hair can have a dramatic effect. For example afro-carribeans have a difference cross section shape to their hair, look at the difference that makes.
