  • that's like 900 Bics!

    £130!

Are you on a commission or something?

  • That GFT stuff from Trumpers in the Rapha photograph is awesome.

  • I love you Parfifty.

  • Apolopies, I got a bit carried away with my first post...

Right I'm new to all this fixed and ss lark and have been sitting back and reading up rather than asking questions that will result in me being called a lazy cunt. (Questions like 'what is the best otp bike for £225?')

I may not know very much about bikes, but I do know about shaving.

If you want to look like you've had a shave you have to wet shave. If you want a beard then an electric beard trimmer is needed to keep it even and in shape.

When it comes to wet shaving ditch the mach 3 and the quattro and get yourself a single-blade safety razor. Shaving with a mach 3 is like riding an 18 gear mtb in town, shaving with a quattro is like riding a 21 gear mtb with full suspension.

Start with a preshave oil - I use the Truefitt and Hill Ultimate Comfort. Then use a badger hair brush and a good quality shaving cream - I use either Geo F Trumper or Truefitt and Hill. Then use a Merkur safety razor with Merkur blade. Always go with the grain. Shave after a shower with really hot water to open the pores and soften the hair, and then use cold water to close the pores and stop irritation. You can use an alum block and some post shave creme if you like.

Now you can call me a ponce, but not a lazy cunt.

    You ponce.

  • straight razor. easy.

this is one of my "other" interests. i collect, restore and use straight razors. far better than anything i've ever used before and you never have to give mr gilette any more money!

  • Geo F Trumper on Jermyn Street, SW1.
At least go once in your life.

Been. Had the shave. Was fantastic. It's the male equivalent of a day at the spa I'd say. It's still a real barber shop downstairs aswell. Proper old school.

As for home shaving. I use a Gilette Fusion that I got cheap when I was in California (once my 32 America priced blades ran out thought it became expensive). I'd say there's no difference between that and the classic Mach 3.

I bought a straight razor and I've attempted to use it a few times but it's really not got a great edge on it. I bought a piece of Coticule (barbers choice for sharpening) but I've decided that it's not sharp enough for the fine tuning of a Coticule and I need to give it a proper sharpen to start it off. I'm not willing to buy all the gear for £40-£60 so I'll eventually look around to find a place that will sharpen it for me.

Safety razors sound like a good idea. I'll give that a shot at some point also.

Brush wise it has to be badger. I've got a Crabtree & Evelyn brush which is great. I had a boar hair brush from the body shop which was terrible. Spend at least about £25 on a good quality badger hair brush and make sure you store it handle up / hair down. If not it'll go bad quicker.

  • badger brush, body shop shaving cream, sharp razor. can't stand that foamy can crap.

  • how much would one expect to pay for a shave and perhaps a slight trim of the hair at Geo F Trumper's emporium? sounds like a nice afternoon out to me. i would also require a splash of fine french cologne, needless to say.

  • I can't go in body shop cos i start sniffing all the soaps. embarassing.

  • Embrace the inner sniffer :)

    (not saddles though)

  • I think thats why they now have the men's range, incase you get dragged in by the missus.

i quite like the sound (and price) of 'friction' :D

  • Are you on a commission or something?

    I wish.

No, I just have a Google habit. I'm trying to trade it in for a coke habit but the googling is winning.

  • £30 for a fucking hair cut?!

    Fuck off.

  • Never ever use a bic to shave your balls.

These lads are decent. Very good colone's for good prices and they are an old school barbers as well. They have all the kit as well.

At the moment i use a Quattro and use Demalogica cleaning gel. It's the best cleaning stuff and very good for shaving. It's £40 odd for a big bottle but it lasts me 6 months.

  • Never ever use a bic to shave your balls.

    deal.

  • I use Wahl barber's clippers.

    That's right. On my face.

I'm not into close shaves particularly, I save them for ridin round town.

I bet you tell that to all the ladies.

i can't recommend this razor enough, it is amazing.
honest- stopped my issue with razor burn.

I got this . . hands down best razor out there.

My Dad (Now 80) used to go to Trumper every day - he has a couple of their shaving sets from back in the day, one Ivory and one Tortioseshell, beautifully made bits of kit
