I'd second getting a Surly (from Brixton if you're in London), I love mine and haven't regretted getting it for a second. Also, the service etc you get at Brixton is second to none. Unless you're a giant or midget chances are they will have one built up to test ride in your size too.
Condor might work out quite pricey, but if you did it right first time you wouldn't have to upgrade any bits.

Ooh, I like some of these Cremes (apart from the garish colour scheme).

Thanks, I'll give Brixton a call & take a Surly for a spin.

Yeah, this is why it's tempting. 40% off on the cycle scheme is pretty sweet. The more I think about it the more it makes sense to get a decent setup from the start. The thing I don't like about the Potenza is the graphics, and maybe the white forks. I suppose I could replace the forks at a later date quite easily. I reckon I could live with the graphics too. I think I'll take them for a spin & see which takes my fancy. I do like the idea of getting everything custom built at Condor.

Brixton charge 10% extra if you buy on cycle scheme.
On my tax code I was getting 31% off, so 10 of that was a bit steep. -

Because they get charged £100 (or it might be 10%) if they sell a bike via the Cycle to Work scheme. Some shops, especially the small independents like BC, can't afford to absorb that cost so pass it on to the customer (who is still getting a good deal).

I don’t know but my guess they passing 10% cycle scheme admin charge to customer,
which they not suppose to on fully priced bikes and accessories. But they independent shop, right? Some other shops do is well not only Brixton.

By the way - Are the graphics on the Steamroller removable?

go to condor, they have some lovely bikes! the surly is a great utilitarian bike, but if possible i would go with the condor. Its definetly worth taking a trip to condor.

Evans can get Surly too. If they look at you blankly tell them to look at ISON distribution, who they do deal with (at least they did before Christmas).
Surly decals can be removed with a hairdryer and an old (or new if you want to damage it) bankcard.

There was some complications and I waited almost 2 months, guys from surgery was very helpful and they don’t charge anything on top. Decals just stickers and I got mine of with hairdryer.

I'd say Surly and Brixton.
- The Surly is the bike I wish I'd always bought first. It can do everything (and they're sizings fit me).
- Brixton are lovely
- I don't like the Condor options.
- Pretty sure they'd do cyclescheme -pm hillbilly he works there to confirm.

Brixton do do the cyclescheme - I got my last bike that way from them (a lovely cream Surly). Only choice really as they are ace (BC) and the bike is brilliant too.

Brixton do do the cyclescheme....
You said "do do". ;)
Haven't heard that in decades.
But I'm guessing that you didn't mean
Brixton poo-poo (meaning to scoff at, or deride).
Just checking like.

thanks for clarifying your meaning there - was just reaching for my dictionary ;-)

I'm sure its not manchester legal, but you could easily use it on Herne Hill.
Whereas try a condor off road and you won't enjoy it on those 28c slicks. -

what do you guys think of the Marine Inverness? (or dominican)
Looks like a nice bike and I like that it does not have race handles
Need to test ride one but pretty sure I will get the Inverness

I'd say for just under £500 you could probably get something a bit nicer, but I doubt there is anything wrong with it.
Remember that you can change bars easily and for not much cash, so test ride a few before settling for this.
how about an on one pompino?
