Plus this seems obsolete cause Hippy seemed to have the answers already. Guess it was a long weekend on the couch bored and not willing to sit at the table to do the gluing and sticking.

Another education from the wise old people of lfgss.
Worth getting for 2 month tour? -
• #584
Just cos he has the answers doesn't mean thread should stop!
-
• #585
Use a small permanent marker - those mini-Sharpies are excellent for the job, the circle is still visible after normal sanding!
-
• #586
GA2G why doesn't your thread appear when searching for glue or patches?
I'm going to leave this here now to teach you a lesson about thread tagging.
-
• #587
I fact, that "Tyre Patches and Glues" thread doesn't even appear to exist.
-
• #588
My personal gripe is not with the solvent glue but the riddiculous over-sized patches that come in kits, or even the small patches on a strip they sell at my LBS. I eventually found some really small, really reliable round patches at Mike Dyason, 100 patches for about £3.00
Take a standard patch and cut into halves/quarters. I do it all the time and they hold up fine. -

Goes off to add hippy is a fathead tag to ga2g thread
-
• #590
Hippy where did you get your bulk supply of patches?
-
• #591
A few of us chipped in and Gruffalo Gill bought some..

^ cheers.
Thinking 400 maybe OTT, but its a start :)
Also, are these actually patches for tubs that you just glue on the outside? If so (and they work) that's amazing.

They are patches you glue on the INSIDE of dem new fangled tubeLESS tyres not tubuLARS! So not quite as magical as you hoped ;-)

are they better than the original larger sized sharpies? i have one of those but if the smaller one is better i think whsmith over the road stock them....
jeeez, do people really need to mark their tubes when puncture fixing? surely, the hole is under your thumb once you found it, and it'll still be there once you reached for the sand paper, then once you've sanded the area, the hole will be magically where the sanded area is......then once you've applied the glue and gone to put the kettle on or whatever you do while you wait for the glue to tack, when you come back, the hole will be UNDER THE BLOB OF TACKY GLUE.... its kind of freaky.
-
• #596
Inflate tube, see hole, tube deflates while you prepare fix, hole disappears
-
• #597
yup
i always use a biro, and put some arrows pointing to the hole
stops you sanding over a circle, which is never too accurate -
• #598
whatfriends
if you keep a thumb on the hole after sanding you add finger grease to the surface you are planning on gluing
not a good idea
-
• #599
i dont do this ^^^^. thumb goes on before sandpaper. then, after sanding, the area is easily found because its right next to where i'm holding it and its clearly been sanded. each to their own i guess. never had a problem with my method, spose i should be gracious and accept other peoples ways.
do you keep a pen in your repair kit out on rides?
-
• #600
I carry two spare tubes when riding, prefer to repair them in the comfort of my own home...
.. and wake up to find your threads merged into the puncture thread.
so I can go to bed happy.
