  • That said though, can't you just go Report Item > Fraudulent listing activities > You suspect that a listing is fraudulent?

  • Hi all, I just had a rush of blood to the head and hit BIN on an espresso machine on eBay which was listed far too cheap. I'm an idiot. Just checked the seller's feedback and it is 2, those 2 items being old PC CD ROMs for 1p each. Stinks.

The PayPal (£1700) has gone straight through, it's on my Mastercard, but I could be fucked if all his accounts close, right? Or it could all be legit and he needs a real fast sale.... couldn't it? please...

Don't know what to do now, nothing has actually gone wrong at this point, just seems bad. :(

  • I could be fucked if all his accounts close, right?

Nah Paypal should cover you and failing that, your Mastercard probably has some sort of protection.

Just a waiting game till either the postie drops an espresso maker through your letter box or...

  • Thank you for this, that's settled my pulse a little. Going to drink whisky and take cocodomol and hope sleep comes now.

  • Did you genuinely impulse purchase a £1,700 espresso machine on eBay? I am in the wrong career path. :-( You'll be fine either way with PayPal or with MasterCard. But tell me. What am I doing wrong with my life?

  • Ha, no I am in the market for a commercial espresso machine with a budget in that ballpark. This particular machine normally would sell used for around £5-7k. It really is too good to be true, but I'd had some gin and now I have enormous, huge remorse.

What was meant to happen was I would hit BIN to secure it, get in touch with the seller, arrange cash on collection and bail if anything smelt fishy. What happened was I hit BIN and Paypal took the cash immediately. Probably could have been avoided if I wasn't such a bellend.

  • Don't worry. Paypal will give you the money back if you don't get what you thought you were going to get. I've good experience of this, been in that situation before!

  • was I hit BIN and Paypal took the cash immediately

Whenever I've bought anything, the purchase and the payment were separate.

Perhaps it's because of the value?

  • It depends if the seller set the purchase as pay immediately. If so, when you hit "buy it now", you'll pay for it instantly. There's also a setting on Paypal, which asks you if you want to skip the log in to "pay now", if you've clicked this, its essentially one click purchase the same as with Amazon.

  • I've been caught by the BIN and having checked "remember my login" fortunately it was for something about a tenner. I've started using the Basket feature on ebay as a way stopping this if I'm not a 100%.

  • Looks like I've been given a let off. PayPal obviously didn't like the cut of this chap's jib either and issued a refund first thing this morning. The seller got in touch saying he was having PayPal problems and would I like to continue with the sale when he re-lists the item on his friend's account. I politely declined.

  • Hi everybody,

Someone just burgled into my garage and stole my beloved Wilier Mortirolo.

It's black and white, mix of Campa Record and Chorus with pretty new Zonda wheels.

Please do let me know if someone offers you a bike like this. Picture was just taken yesterday on my ride to Brighton : (

  • Epic WTF thread >>>

Unless we have a "too stupid to live" thread.

  • Looks pretty sus, 'surely road bike'?

No feed back on the seller either.

  • What's suspicious?

Bad spelling? Half the posts on here are suspicious then. And don't discount the effect of predictive text (with so many people using a smartphone, in preference to a conventional PC).

No feedback? Everyone has to start somewhere, not that I place much store in it anyway: my feedback is over 150, but I've only made one sale.

Ask to see the receipt for the service.

  • What's suspicious about that?

  • Parked on a stairwell, in front of a fire escape obvs...

  • The "over £400 new" is bullshit.

  • Bit strange. Facebook marketplace. I messaged him half in jest asking if he would take £200 which is way to cheap really for the bike and its condition. To my surprise he said yes and wanted to meet straight away. As soon as i started asking questions about the bike he said he wasnt selling it anymore. Anyone had a black and white Trek 1.2 road bike stolen in the london area? Also notice the stack of Trek bikes in the background? Might just be nothing but wanting to meet as soon as possible then changing his mind made me suspicious. :S
