My Miche BB worked itself loose a couple of times on the drive side, i just tightened the shit out of it with some plumbers tape on the threads (? i think thats the stuff) and it hasnt moved since.

ill-fitted BB isn't a fault of the BB itself.

I agree, miche BBs are poor, there are a variety of well made bottom brackets that meet the specs you need. Avoid the miche it is CHEAP and by that I do not mean good value - I mean shit.
-
• #33
They're cheap, not made of cheese and adjustable. What more do you need?

i had trouble with mine too and thought it was shit. then my dad told me shut up and use a torque wrench... it's been fine since then. lesson: use the right tools and htfu

i rode that same miche bb mentioned in my post above with no issues for approx 7-8 months, it never came loose, so i guess it's all in the fitting.

I've been on Miche BB's for a couple of years. They are great, cheap, and even better, they identify idiots who do not know how to fit a bottom bracket.

Bring life to this thread since I can't start a be one.
Ive got an early 80s holdsworth frame and I tried to fit a miche primato bb. After removing the old campy bb the miche bb was tight to thread in on one side and stopped with the off side cup only in about half way with significant Thread left out of the frame. The other side is fine so am I right in thinking I need to get the thread on tw frame re-cut? What is the proper term for this and where in west or central London could this be done?
I put new bearings and regreased the old campy bb but with it back in the locking keeps falling off because there is hardly any thread for it to screw onto and with new miche primato cranks e chainline is no longer straight. Is it worth doing anything about this? Is it safe to ride, I can tighten it on a bit but it slips and jumps the tread if it is tightened fully. The bb seems to be ok but could I find myself going flying if it gets loose (I'm fiddling fixed)? Cheers in advance

Don't know why I can't edit that post my iPhone messed up a few words there. I obviously ment to say I'm riding fixed. Im not sure what fixed fiddling would be but not doubt it will lead some strange google searches to lfgss

That happened to me. I got it tapped which barley made any difference. Then I had the frame powder coated and i was able to screw it in by hand after that. (frame shot blasted, threads cleaned up)
Maybe get the threads Re tapped and take the BB with you to make sure it fits!? -

Yeah I'll do that, cheers for the warning. Think I'll try to get it done tomorrow. Fitzrovia (Cavendish) cycles was suggested as a shop with the tool but I'm sure I can find somewhere else if not. I'll take my new BB with me.
I was actually thinking of getting the frame painted (powder coated or enamel at Mercian) anyway in about a month so maybe this is the excuse I needed. Did you get yours done at armourtex? Can you recommend it/anywhere?
-

Yeah, i got it done at armourtex. Good service and everything but if you've got the cash to get it enamelled, i'd do that (if the frame is worth it!)
Powder coating isn't very tough.
I went to Brick lane bikes to get the threads tapped and for some reason it didn't make any difference! -

I'm really tempted. The frame has some nice detailing on the lugs and wrap-over seat stay, so if I was going to get it painted it should be done properly which does kind of rule armourtex out. But I really should be spending the cash on building up another bike. Think I'll do some searches for Mercian jobs.
I got the thread retapped at Fitzrovia today and no sooner than I had got a coffee they called and it was ready. Great service and no problems. Damn near straight chainline. Now I just hope it doesn't get loose

Nice one! I've head loads of people complaining about miche bottom brackets unscrewing...
I used one for about 2 years in one frame and almost the same time in the frame i've got now and never, ever had that problem! -
• #44
That's what I want to hear. I read some of the complaints but you and others have said they're fine. So either there's manufacturing tolerance or consistency issues, or they need to be fit well. So I'll give it a go save some cash and get a straight chainline. If it gets loose I'll get a Phil bb.
Even cyclesurgerys have those you know :P I bought mine from there
