I'm a New Yorker and as much as I love NYC and miss it, the video doesnt surprise me at all. NYC Cops can be unbelievably brutal for no other reason than they are Thugs with a license and Love the power. Has always pissed me off and always will! The only time I have ever liked the little blue bastards was on 9-11. I almost thought they were human! They all to soon turned right back into the bastards they always have been!

"False statements made herein are punishable as a Class A misdemeanor pursuant to section 210.45 of the penal law.
Carries a penalty of up to a year in jail, or in this case a stern talking to and a box of doughnuts wrapped in $100 bills.

"One of the things that make cycling so great is that it enables you to avoid crowds and pointless delays. Few things are more satisfying than effortlessly weaving your way through a traffic jam.
*"So while I’ll begrudge nobody his or her Critical Mass, personally I don’t understand the appeal of forming a crowd and creating a pointless delay. And it is a delay, whether you’re in a car or on a bike. *
*"I once accidentally got caught in a Critical Mass ride while out riding. I felt like a dolphin ensnared in a tuna net. One second I was sailing along, and the next I was trapped among a bunch of people with rickety bikes rolling on wobbly, rusty brown steel rims on the verge of collapse. *
*"It was like watching a Beatles “Yellow Submarine”-esque cartoon LSD sequence where all the bicycles were rolling on pretzels. Sure, they had taken back the streets, but I wish that as a cyclist they might have saved a small sliver for me so I could get to where I was going." * -

"These people are taking over the streets and impeding the flow of traffic."
These people are riding in the streets and are part of the flow of traffic.
Fucking racists.

where did it says that this specific cyclist was 'wanted' for creating traffic offence?

Every cop seemed to said "liberal punk" in every sentence they speak.

I'm weeping tears of blood.
One post says:
"Another officer, further up the street and out of the camera's view, probably attempted to arrest the guy for some type of infraction. The guy on the bike disregarded that officer's order to stop and dismount, then rode away.Aware that the bicyclist had already refused a lawful order to desist and surrender, he was clearly resisting arrest and the other officer had to use physical force to effect the arrest."
Another post:
"If you turn your monitor around, you'll see the cyclist snatching a purse."I love how they automatically jump to the conclusion that one of America's Finest could never ever do anything wrong. I bet these morons thought Rodney King got what he deserved as well.
At times like these, I tell everybody I'm Taiwanese rather than American...

I understand that the police defense will be that the footage is backwards and that in fact the officer weas helping the cyclist up.

That forum is scary - the racism on display alone is enough to put me off going to NY, and i presume the posters are either active or retired coppers:
The above doesn't apply to white cops. Only the black and hispanic ones.
I'll applaud ANY cop of ANY color who knocks one of these lib bike riding shitheads out of the game the way this cop did... and I'll knock the black and hispanic ones who drive drunk and leave the scene after injuring on duty cops, like in the 52, and those who try to hide their baby daddies bullet ridden cars after he shot a cop. Then there's the bank robbing cops, drug dealing cops, the ones covering for their latin king - crip - blood affiliated family members, oh... and cops from tropical countries who go "sick" for being put on a footpost on a summer day. Those cops I'll knock. -

at least some post are reasonable;
"People (including myself) have said "This cop better have seen some offense occur down the street" as reasoning for his actions. Unfotuneately, the affidavit against the bike rider had him charged with:
- DisCon for "obstructing vehicular traffic by weaving in and out of lanes" huh? This is the "Critical Mass" bike protest that occurs monthly. Don't they close the street for vehicular traffic? Even if they don't, anybody see any cars driving n/b on Broadway? I don't see a one.
- Attempted Assault: The cop is claiming the bike rider deliberately ran into him (we've all seen the tape by now). The cop is also allegeing he was "knocked down to the ground and sustained a laceration to his arm". Anyone see the cop knocked to the ground? I don't
- Reisting Arrest: After the guy is knocked to the ground, he's just laying on the sidewalk with the cop and his partner standing over him (they don't even try to cuff him on the tape)

When this first became public, I gave the cop the benefit of the doubt and said "He probably saw this guy do something down the block and also saw another cop on foot unsuccessfully try to stop him so he used appropriate force to affect the arrest"....The guy was not charged with anything other than offenses related to the incident on tape. Just saw on eyewitness news this morning Manhattan DA's office is considering perjury charges against the cop for signing off on the charges listed on the affidavit. I think with this being so public at this point, Ray is going to throw this guy to the wolves"

Funny thing is, I'd be willing to bet that New York City is the most diverse city in the US in terms of ethnicity and nationality.

I've been beaten by police in the UK for absolutly nothing, beaten black and blue for being young and with mates.
Wathcing the videos posted on this post has brought that all back. I find it hard to comprehend how a government allows such people in to a possition of power and responsibility, it;s amazing.
Right now there is a community support cop working where I work, and it seems to me that you need to have odd mental dispossition to become a cop. Basically your a sad C*nt.
I respect that they are needed but a few bad apples spoil the broth (something like this).
It only leads me to feel;
FUCK THE POLICE.

Is bikesnob suggesting that the police should have only targeted the 'hippies'? I agree with his sentiment that antagonising people by slowing them down is pointless but the method of frustration by the policeman is not on.
Although am I surprised? He probably accused him of being a terrorist.

I cant f#in stand it! Are London cops just as thuggish and neaderthal as NYC cops? They love to f#k people up, it's a game and they get away with it on a daily basis and are almost never punished for their actions! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
Make it stop! Make it stop!!! -

I says the London cops are quite different to the NYC cops, not as Netherlander as the NYC but still sometime are up to no good.
It is a nice calm rational article - nothing we don't already know - just hope the cabbies will read it.
